Baring quickly in mind, i have not played Final Fantasy Tactics, as far as I know, this is the only FF game I have not played.
My favourites are:
Final Fantasy 1 (Great fun, and now available portable on the game boy advance !)
Final Fantasy 2 (Greater fun, also now available portable on the gameboy advance, I think)
Final Fantasy 6 (Very fun game, and even has a two player co-op mode, technically.)
Final Fantasy 10-2 (I'm one of those crazy people who likes games with really good gameplay, and for some reason, I also like plots that are not about over cliched attempts to destroy, conquer, or blow-up the world.)
Edit: If you can only get one of these games, you should probably go with FF6, or maybe FF2.

I am in no way responsible for the above post. It was my hand's fault. Bad hand.

Final Fantasy 7, no questions, hands down. PLay Final Fantasy 7.
FFtactics is gay!!!!! woooot![]()
Tactical rpg's in general are gay![]()
What exactly is so gay about tactical RPGs? That the battles require some actual thinking? Or that the plot is far too interesting? Seriously, I couldn't put that game down, the story was so captivating. I even went into battles I had nearly no chance of winning just so that I could advance the storyline.
Anyway, FFT has little to do with the main FF series, basically only the name and some chocobos are what connect them.
No, you are gay!!! Nah, just kidding. I'm just trying to say that tactical RPGs are quite good IMO.Originally Posted by Shadow X

I'll pick it up after i get done with Final fantasy 7![]()
well, if I were you, I'd play FF7 right now, just to see what all the hype is about. But yeah, not only that, but also because of Advent Children that's coming out, Dirge of Cerberus which'll be hitting the markets sometime later and maybe even the FF7 remake (if one is made that is), but yeah, try that out and see why there's so many fans of it![]()
now FFT, there's another excellent game, while you don't get as much freedom outside of battle, the realism of your full mobility inside more than makes up for it.
huh, from what I've heard, FFXII will actually take place in Ivalice, so... maybe we'll see more "tactics" integration with the main Final Fantasy seriesOriginally Posted by pkt-zer0
When I want your opinion, I will diffuse it from you through osmosis!
damn right. i did like the junction system. but i read alot and heard alot on how so many people didn't like the junction system. wonder why?Originally Posted by brit

I don't like tactics because I suck at them. I tryed to play Final Fantasy tactics I get through about half of the game and I get stuck somewhere and I can never beat it. So I just stopped playing it. Don't ask me where I get stuck i dont remember.
Would everyone stop constantly saying Final Fantasy 7 is good. Infact Don't play FF7 is sucks (I am laughing just for typing that) but seriously Don't let it be your first Final Fantasy. Otherwise you will be like most of these people and it will be your first and you will love it for that reason and defend it about anything no matter how true the person may be. It is way overrated, no one shuts up about it. It gets annoying, after reading over other RPGs storylines I now realize FF7 isn't all that great. I still love it.
But its no longer my going to go under my Best RPGs list. FF6 is better, depending on how you like your rpgs tactics may be the best. Chrono trigger in my opinion is better than any Final Fantasy. Chrono Cross is good but it gets old. Xenogears is awesome, a must play. Xenosaga is boring as hell, its like a movie, and all the parts where you walk around is like the main menu on a dvd, you move it around click on something and a movie plays (in this case a scene or FMV). Play older RPGs first they are better. Breath of Fire 1 and 2, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, whatever just play them. They are all good, ive played them through atleast three time each. Breath of Fire 1 seemed sorta boring after a while so I stopped at three play throughs.
Final Fantasy XII was the game I was looking forward to the most at E3 2004. Its development is being headed up by Yasumi Matsuno, the man behind Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Tactics Ogre, and most recently, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. While his games have an ardent following, he's never had the chance to work on anything as huge as a Final Fantasy game. After seeing it unveiled last November and getting to play it a bit today, it's clear that Matsuno and his team are working hard to make this the most successful title they've ever worked on.
GameSpy has already served information on the games world, art direction, and characters. What was unknown until now was how the game would play. The demo on the E3 show floor revealed a handful of scenes to give gamers an idea of what to expect in Final Fantasy XII.
The combat system is very different from previous Final Fantasy games. You won't see random enemy attacks or quick transitions from the level to combat. Skirmishes in FFXII are seamless. If you see an enemy, you can choose to run away like a coward or engage. Unlike past games, the environment plays a significant part of combat. Choosing the best place to attack and defend from can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
When you attack an enemy, a blue arc is displayed between you and your target. The same goes for your party, so you can see who your team is going after. As for your foes, red arcs represent their chosen prey. If you see four red lines pointed at you, then you sure as hell better run to a more advantageous spot in the environment.
Now, there are still some commonalities between the fighting system in this game and the ones found in its predecessors. Though you can let battles play out in real time, it's smarter to take pauses in the action to coordinate optimal strategies.
When you're not in battle, you can use the d-pad to select which character in your party you control, as well as any non-player characters you want to target for actions. Overall, the new navigation and fighting system took a few minutes to get used to, but felt quite natural after a short while.
At any given time, you can adventure with three characters. You can swap others from your roster. Control freaks can choose to select every single move their team members make. The more adventurous types can control the main character, while using "gambit" commands for the others. These are general orders, such as attack, heal, defend, etc. The characters AI kicks in under gambit mode and the character acts fairly independently. The system worked in the few battles I played, but how effective it is in the long haul has yet to be determined.
FF12 will probably be my new favorite.
stop saying how great FF7 is? why? it is a great game with great elements. if you find it annoying that alot of people here enjoy that game and post about it maybe you shouldn't post in this thread.

well, that sucks lol i have that game sittin in my pc. have had it for quite a while now and never played it. should i just delete it?Originally Posted by Shadow X
I've said this lots of times before, but it's being developed by the guys who made Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy Tactics, so it should be unlike any previous FF game. If it turns out to be good, it might happen that the original FF team (Tetsuya Nomura, now that Hironobu Sakaguchi is gone) takes a back seat to Yasumi Matsuno. Still, it's only FF as much as FFT is, they simply paid a lot of money for the developers to use their name and universe.Originally Posted by Lonewolf

After reading through some stuff at adventchildren.net, I came to the conclusions, that FF7 fanboys are a terrible sight to behold. With a massive IQ of 2, they'll claim that FF7 has the best storyline, gameplay, music, and whatever, while completely misunderstanding the story itself. 60% of the people there tend to think that Cloud is a clone of Sephiroth, or whatever. I remember that in the game, all this was a lie concieved by Sephiroth, forced upon our hero's unwilling mind, luring him into obedience this way.
I happen to like the more strategic approach to battling, it's really a subjective choice. But battles are really going to get long in the game towards the end, so I suggest you play the Tales of... series or Valkyrie Profile instead, if you haven't already done so. The fast paced battles are there for you to enjoy. (currently playing Tales of Phantasia, battles are awesome, the voice-overs are greatOriginally Posted by Shadow X
