I think I've done that before, makes your hands stink of reefer all day though.

The medicinal properties are a compelling argument for legalization, but are always being countered by some health concerns and a whole bunch of bogus information parroted by the "moral right". If us weed liberals combined this argument with all the other excellent pluses provided by hemp, we could totally defeat those fuckers in a court of law. Unless of course somebody named Bush stuck his self-righteous foot against the door of opportunity, so it may have to wait till he's out of office (one of my goals is to be put on the enemies of the white house list before that time, but I doubt it'll happen because i'm trying to do it; i'm more likely to be applauded by that dumb fucker). To put it simply, I was trying to inject some variety into this discussion and address the fact that people tend to focus too much on that aspect of weed, especially those who are trying to improve its image in the public eye, because that is key.
Agreed. So you know, I wasn't going against anything you said, I was adding to it. I can't argue with someone who wants to legalize the plant as much as I do. It goes against my character.

Do you give them a puff?

I admit, as close to legalization as weed is, I may try it sometime. But I've still got all those crappy "educational" autopsies in my head. The way I see it, I turn 21, I'm old enough to drink, I'm old enough to do marijuana.
    Err... Marijjuanie.

Well, I'll wait until I can spell it, anyaway.

Interesting topic, sort of.. But I'm not going to read the whole thread.

I dislike weed, but I admit I don't know anything about the crap aswell. But I'm not going to take the time to look up facts, because I'm lazy..
I don't think people who smoke weed are doing a bad thing, but I'd prefer it if they would smoke their pot elsewhere, because the smell gives me incredible head pains.

I read the link. Very interesting stuff Soeru. I myself had different ideas about weed earlier. And the medicinal properties really interest me, I mean, hemp sure is useful stuff!

Its true that there are many myths surrounding the usage of cannabis, and there will always be many an arguement either side of the 'do/don't legalise it' fence. I have to say though, speaking from a hazy and oft-forgotten (due to drug related amnesia) couple of years that I am firmly against the idea of legalising the drug.

It was recently suggested that 58% of youths under 16 in the UK had sampled cannabis before, surely a worrying statistic. It appears joints are the 'new cigarette', in that its cool to smoke the herb. But theres also increasing evidence that smoking cannabis whilst young dramatically increases the risk of developing depression, psychosis and various cancers. Smoking cannabis isnt healthy, for the mind or body.

Of course, you could counter with the age-old arguement that it isnt going to be bad for you, not in moderation. And sure, there are many people with the will-power to just have the odd spliff now and again. But its equally easy to become dependant on weed - I smoked the stuff in my spare time pretty much solidly for the best part of two years. And it did change the way I functioned, both physically and mentally. I found myself becoming lazy, I was eating a shed load of junk food every time I got the munchies, my memory suffered terribly, I became depressed, paranoid et cetera. It was only when I ditched the weed that this smoke-like haze over my brain lifted and I functioned properly again.

Sure, I had a laugh when I first started smoking, but for people to constantly try and overlook the consequences of smoking cannabis by talking of dubious health benifits really need to pull their head out of their arse and look into the real world. I'd like one of these jumped-up idiots to visit any council estate in the UK and witness first-hand the effect its having on this country's young people.

No more skinning up for you, eh? Pansy.

Personally, I smoke on occasion so legalizing it would only be benificial to me. Idiots who smoke every two hours just for the sake of smoking are the ones who come down with all this cancer and shit of the like. I've been smoking since 1999 and I didn't start thinking of legalizing until 2002, because at that time, I was just a stupid stoner with no sense of how things are set up. I didn't have a grasp on politics or any of that. Not because of weed, but because I couldn't care less. I slowed down on my smoking so that I can defend my stance in situations like this in a more public setting. Weed does have mental effects, namely slowing down one's thought process when pressure is involved. I can't have that all the time. So as I have said before, legalize it. Just regulate the shit. Put a price on it that we would have put on it ourselves. I have never bought a bag of weed under five dollars, so there you have it. Pre-rolled els at five and up. Don't try to sell it like cigs, that shit would never work.
