Default One year since Quorthon died...

I was going to post this 2 days ago but I didn't get around to doing so. Last year on June 3rd, Ace Brje Forsberg(a.k.a.: Quorthon), the man behind the band Bathory died from heart failure.

For those of you who don't know, Bathory was technically the first black metal band in existence, dating back to the very early 80's. The Swedish 1-man band also created the sound of viking metal in the later albums. Bathory's music has been extremely influential for any band that lays in either of these two genres, but many other musicians claim that Bathory has been a big influence.

Maybe the folk here that like Motrhead and Sodom(or any very oldschool speed/thrash metal) should check out some early Bathory, as you're bound to like it too. For everyone else you might want to check out the "Hammerheart" and "Blood Fire Death" albums, less heavy, highly epic, and more enjoyable in my opinion. Quorthon had a rather limited voice, so you might find it annoying at first, but considering that this man wrote and played everything on the albums, you won't really give a damn. A well-rounded musician indeed.

May he rest in Valhalla. \m/

Edit: No idea why a poll was made... but vote for me if you must.

Why thank you for submitting such relevant posts. Wankers. And uh, I appreciate the votes, but creating a poll/battle was not my intention. All these hax are making the forums buggy.

Though I didn't know him, it must have been a great thing to be a founder of any type of music and well, seeing how I am quite a fan of that kind of music, I guess I owe him something , Well have a Good time in Valhalla, sir.

I'm going to have to check Bathory out. One of my friends is a huge fan and he told me they are awesome.

Truly, Quorthon has accomplished the impossible with Bathory. I'd choose "Twilight of the Gods" over any other Bathory album any time if I had to. That's not to say the others are any less powerful, but TotG comes as the most polished Bathory album to me.

Long live the pounding hammerheart. Long live Bathory. \m/

"Blood Fire Death" for life, I fucking love that album. The first I heard by him, the best I've heard by him. I all of his work with Bathory, except from the thrash-era albums,"Requiem" and "Octagon". Man, those albums where beyond thrash, they where so thrash they're not even thrash anymore. Oh well.

    Long live Quorthon.
