I was going to post this 2 days ago but I didn't get around to doing so. Last year on June 3rd, Ace Brje Forsberg(a.k.a.: Quorthon), the man behind the band Bathory died from heart failure.
For those of you who don't know, Bathory was technically the first black metal band in existence, dating back to the very early 80's. The Swedish 1-man band also created the sound of viking metal in the later albums. Bathory's music has been extremely influential for any band that lays in either of these two genres, but many other musicians claim that Bathory has been a big influence.
Maybe the folk here that like Motrhead and Sodom(or any very oldschool speed/thrash metal) should check out some early Bathory, as you're bound to like it too. For everyone else you might want to check out the "Hammerheart" and "Blood Fire Death" albums, less heavy, highly epic, and more enjoyable in my opinion. Quorthon had a rather limited voice, so you might find it annoying at first, but considering that this man wrote and played everything on the albums, you won't really give a damn. A well-rounded musician indeed.
May he rest in Valhalla. \m/
