I was just wonder if you have a PSX emulator can you play PSX games on your computer straight from the disc?

yes all you have to do is:
1.) insert the disc into the computer
2.) then from the file menu chose run cd-rom
they game should start in seconds, but i recomend creating an iso becuse, they run faster

Right, if you're using ePSXe or a similar emulator that is. ePSXe is recommended, otherwise Connectix VGS is supposedly good as well, and easier to use.

Don't forget about PSXeven that uses the same plugins as ePSXe use
and can run PSX games straight from CD's as well
But as always ePSXe is recommended but to be sure that you'll
be able to emulate every game. Best solution is to use
ePSXe 1.5.2 and ePSXe 1.6.0 combo...
If you're planning on running games from ISO it's preffedred
to mount the ISO to virtual CD-ROM (using Daemon Tools for example)
and run the game from Virtual drive.

it actually doesnt matter whether you run it directly from the image or mount it... it's basically the same thing, but i think if u run it directly, the emulator doesnt have to go through the daemon's emulation interface to access the raw data and therefore might be slightly faster. just my thought though.

Yep. It's basically the same but sometimes problems with sound emulationOriginally Posted by micral
may occur when the ISO have subchannel data or CDDA sound and is run
as CD without the .sub, .ccd or any other file that holds the requred sound
info. Well simply tell there is also a way to use CDR plugin thet runs ISO's
as CD's if someone don't want to mount it to virtual CD-ROM.
BTW: You're right about the thing that mounting ISO use a lot more PC
resources and is a bit slower than running it directly, but remember that
option that allows to run games directly from ISO isn't as functional
(by means of coding or programming) in ePSXe as the "RunCDROM" option
sure cds work it's all I use except for games that use analog cdda music tracks (your cd drive needs to be connected to your sound card for them to work from cd), for those I use daemons tools.
SaPu cdr plugin works magic for those, no need for analog.Originally Posted by kryptin
It's like analog emulation. :O :O :O
You peoples really need to try it, my prefered cdr plugin.
But... Using your discs can make them scratch ever-so-slightly with each use! Why do that when you can make ISOs yourself...? And about the speed thing... The PC's drive doesn't really do much to enhance the loading speed through ePSXe, and running from ISO isn't noticeably slower, at least not by the human eye/ear/whatever. In fact, I think it's only SLIGHTLY faster, that's my impression anyway...
Reading from the HD should be faster than reading from CD-ROM, after all... But in the end, I don't think the emulator takes any advantage of this...
My uninformed opinion...
Actually I think it runs much smoother when doing it from an ISO. Some things like menus transition smoother or levels do load slightly faster.
SaPU handles cdda even on isos, that what i meant incase it wasn't clear. I prefer isos over media too, but i have a modded psx so no need for isos on my comp.
I keep discs because I have a modded psx I can use them on as well
i'd like to add fmv sequences, as these are usually large chunks of data and can take considerably more time to load from a CD than from the hard drive...Originally Posted by Lee

WOW, cool I'll have to try and run some of my PSX games on my comp
Yeah, what I do is just read my isos of a virtual drive cause they run faster and better. Plus, I don't have to worry about burining the isos. But then again, you don't actually have to burn them, right?
