do you just want to reformat it or do you want to install windows on it? (i'm assuming windows, because most computer don't come with *nix recovery disks)

if you just want to format, you can do that with any windows or linux bootable installation cd. Also, i think different hard drive manufacturers also have programs like for example maxblast for maxtor. If you already have windows installed and you want to format, you can do that within windows.

    To format in Windows:

Right click your drive. select 'format'

    To format with cd:

For Windows 98 and up, boot up with the cd, then you can format it within the setup.

or you can do it like this. get a windows 98 boot disk (search google for it). start up the computer with the disk inserted. once you get to the A: prompt, type "format *drive letter*:" without quotes and replacing Drive Letter with the letter of the drive you wish to reformat.

yea, but if he doesn't know to fdisk it first, he's pretty much damned. I'd just stick with CD, it's easier, unless he knows how to do it in DOS.

I think he wrote this post because he didnt know how to format... that's how i took it..
