    Default Visual Boy Advance

Ive been using this emulator for a while and for the most part it works fine except that sometimes it slows up when theres a lot of sprites/things moving on the screen. I swear that on my old comp it didnt do this. Is this a common problem? Is there a way to fix it or is it simply something that must be dealt with.

If you are playing in fullscreen, lower the resolution.
If you aren't playing in fullscreen but simply maximizing the window, play in fullscreen.

To optimize the speed, you can also:
Lower the sound quality (22000hz works better)
Change the priority of the emulator to something higher (Above normal works best)
Switch off the filtering (I don't recommend that, looks ugly)
Enable frameskipping (value of 1 is fine)
Change the rendering method to something else (DirectDraw should be the fastest)

I also might be caused by the emulator itself, as it is much slower than a gba in alot of games due to not total compatibility with certain functions.

I've never had one problem on my recent computer with VBA.

I beleive you never tried to play Need for speed underground 2 then.
The emulator doesn't support it fully, as you could see.

Settings depends on the computer specs, and on the tasks running in the background too. GBA emulation is a processing power eater.

Are you using the most recent version of VBA?

Are you running programs in the background? Various bittorrent clients will cause this, as well as most file-sharing programs. Perhaps a software firewall? Software-wise, it could be just about anything.

still kinda odd though, no? i mean, my friends' pc has way more things running in the background than my pc does but his pc has more processor power

VBA runs all GBA games smoothly on my system, even when I have BitTorrent (Burst!), Opera, JCreator, Paint Shop Pro, servers, Norton Anti-Virus and such running background. I use 320x240 FullScreen mostly. If I am just checking a game for some reason, then I might be on 2x windowed mode. And I have frame skip on 0 and synchronization on (otherwise it runs too fast ). I use DirectDraw as GFX engine. Oh yeah, I have 2.0 GHz Celeron...
    Have you seen me before?

320x240, that also means NO filtering, which takes a good amount of proc power. And it also depends on your vid card. Less, but still.

If it ran smoothly on a 1.0GHz with a 32MB TNT2 and Win98 for me, it should run just fine for all of you with better specs...
