I am sorry to anyone who supports this idea of 'recruiting' through distribution of pamphlets and advertising and persuation and lobbying, and also extend my apologies to any person actively/passively involved in this fucking game, for causing any intended offence.
This is America we're talking about. The land of freedom, democracy, liberty, equality, blah, crap and meh. Teenagers being nagged to join the army? Democracy? Oh! Forgive me...they're going to fight for democracy.
What a wonderful device employed by the govt. to half the population of a country, must definitely push our Indian govt. to engage itself in recruiting teenagers for a war being fought for democracy and plus getting the added benefit of half the original population.
I am truly apologetic for my sarcasm and rage. I have absolutely no respect for these 'recruiters' and even lesser for those who tell people they will get to go to college and play championship bball if they joined the army. I think everyone is already familiar with my opinions about the person who makes a statement like "either you're with us or the terrorists", so to end this unwieldly post I am going to conclude by simply saying...fuck the fucking army.

In aus we have a REALLY good army college one of the best colleges here in fact plus you only really have to sign up to the army for 3 years and in that time you can get shit loads of schooling. My mate Kimo started out as a cook for his first year did his high schooling (cos he got kicked out) then got into the army collage and is doin enginering which he wouldnt get if he wasnt in the army.
And as i said to you on MSN if you join the army you have got ti think the worst and you will be goin to war.

Both my parents went to military colleges to study medicine. Of course, that would mean if there was a war, they would have had to go. Don't know about my mum but my dad would have had to go. However, to reach such a level of desperation so as to actually advertise and distribute pamphlets and actually catch random people offguard to recruit them especially in a country like America, is sad. It goes to show that this is one of those rare situations where America cannot outsource resources, human or otherwise, thus they're banking desperately on their existing population and a prolonged war.
The cases you delineated are perfect examples of how great the military is. However, your country is not at war atm. So, if someone tells me I would have a great chance at getting a law degree in the army, I would join, however, to say the same thing to an American soldier (atm) is not only unfair but also a lie. I agree with you on this bit about it being a job and you've got to what you have to do, but America is at war at the moment, they're going to need every able-bodied person they have, thus to tell an American student today that s/he has a chance of becoming an engineer or a rugby champ is nothing but a crass lie.
