Mortal Kombat Trilogy is the best fighting game ever. Anyone care to argue that fact?

My personal favourite is the Virtua Fighter series. The characters were always intriguing to me and it was the first fighting game I ever played and I have all the games in the series except the new ones but I wish I did have them.

The classic, the original... Virtua Fighter. Now all of you, shut up.

Good lord, that game was(and still is) fun. It's the only fighter I even bother to play nowadays. I must mention VF2 and VF3 of course, but the original VF and VF2 had a huge impact on me as a kid.

I literally became a friggin nut by learning every single thing I could do with the character Kagemaru, the only character I would use to play against others or beat the game the first 50 times. Even now I still remember how to execute all the moves in all of the games. No one -seriously- no one has beaten me for more than 2 rounds straight EVER. Not in an arcade, not home... Some scores I can boast... all I recall is that I beat a friend with 23 battles to 3.

Edit: Rep points go to Al_V1, and to anyone else that I discover enjoys the VF series as much as I do.

    Man, what An easy question.

Soul Calibur (DC) is hands down the best fighting game ever!

What the?! I've read the whole thread just to make sure: no one mentioned Tobal! Come girls, I mean it was groundbraking in its time.
I'm glad to see that many of you talk about super smach broth...but I'm not sure it really is a fighting game. Beside (even If I love SSB) Power stone 2 is better in this category of games imo.

My choice: 3d= Soul Blade/Calibur (I've never ever played Teken after that)
    2d= marvel vs capcom
With a ppc: c64, mame, atari/amiga, nintendo, sega, nec and psx, all in your pocket.

Tekken 5 is gorgeous. In the name of God, I bestow the title of "Best Fighting Game Ever" to Tekken 5.

Is it better than VF4 Evolution though?

Of course! It's even challenging! The last boss, Jinpachi is incredibly cheap even on easy mode.

I don't really care for cheap bosses though.

Your comments have made me consider purchasing that game.
I will now look through the internet and make my judgement.

Hmmm....Virtual Fighter? Best game? That's funny.
I liked the classic Mortal Combats not the 3D ones.
Marvel vs Capcom 2, nobody around here wants to play me at that.
It makes me sad because I'm tired of beating up on dumb AI.
