Earlier tonight, I was burning my DC ISO of "Rise of the Triad". Wondering what this game was about, I Googled it, and clicked on a link to a legit gaming site (I REEEELY wish I remembered which one). As soon as I hit this site, I get those little popunder windows all over the place, and I know something is up.

A quick check in Control Panel shows a TON of new installs. At this point, I commence removing the crapware, and I get the nice message: "To uninstall eDMZF, please visit our website to download the uninstaller".

Anger level 3

I go to the website, download the uninstaller and uninstall the crapware. Now...it's my turn. At the bottom of the page, I see "Contact Us". I sent an email off, nice boy that I am.

Back on base, it's red alert. I have to get this crap off my drive. I run Hijack-This. Now, my list usually consists of 8 items, all drivers or plugins. I get a list so long, the dammed thing's abridged. Can it be fixed? Of course not. Unremoveable Browser Handlers. The spyware is now firmly embedded in my system.

Anger level 6

I go to AdAware. I run a full system scan, which always seemed to do the trick in the past. Now, mind you, I am fully patched for the usual suspect virii, but every time I get to the Windows/System folder, I get the Blaster Virus (1 Minute Reboot). That had to be put there. So, I can't use AdAware, I can't use Hijack-This... I consider a hammer.

Anger level 9

Maually stopping the processes only mocks me with restarts, and removal of the offending directories is impossible without stopping the processes. A paradox! Indeed, I was screwed. And getting very tired of all this.

Formatting a hard drive is like being bathed by lovely Geisha Girls. You love every second of it, and feel nice and clean when you are done. Well, sort of...only with formatting a hard drive, you don't end up with all that white makeup on your groin. I digress...

In the end, I have installed my copy of XP Home I received with this computer, and canned my XP Pro that I receieved by other means. I can get every patch/pack/injection/condom ever made for this thing. I have my cherry back.

I have attached a copy of the email I sent eDMZF. If you are easily offended by big-people words, or your mommy is reading this aloud to you, please skip the download. It isn't too bad, but not indicative of my usual posture.
