    Default Hard Drive recovery

Just wondering who has tried any hard drive recovery programs and how did it work out for you. My 250 gig HD crashed on me and i had to reformat the thing. So there goes roms, isos, and my beloved anime ouch.

Hm, you shouldn't have formatted the HDD. There is a high chance that at least 1/3 of your files will be impossible to recover, even higher if you've done anything further to the drive. There isn't alot of 'free' recovery apps, so I took the warez way out and got GetDataBack NTFS. At that time, Windows XP wiped my partition tables (on the IDE 120GB HDD). Unweary of what happened, I formatted the larger 80GB partition, AND THEN ran chkdsk - something that I won't ever do again. After getting my system back on its feet, I ran GetDataBack and managed to recover about 2/3 of my files. Most of the files I lost were large ones, over 200MB. I would imagine this is because they would have been fragmented, and parts of those files would have been destroyed in the format. The number one thing to remember is that if something goes wrong, DO NOT WRITE to the drive. That includes a chkdsk, which you should only run the first time in read-only mode.

yeah my fault. Im using recover my files v6 just to see if it can see the deleted files. All i really want back the most is my mp3 files. The rest i can probably just do without for the time being. I actually ran checkdisc after reinstalling windows on my master HD . The thing is all i did was just unhook my slave drive and when i was finished reformating the other drive i rebooted and reconnected my second HD again. Thats when things went wrong. First most of the folders wouldnt show, so i ran chckdsk and it found some files but then fucked files up as well. For example my naruto episodes will play 10 songs mixed together. lol Well not all data was fucked but alot. I think ill try this recover my files program and see what i can do. Thanks maxim for the input.

Edit: Oh yeah anyone got any ideas on what i SHOULD have done if i was going to do this again. Just for future reference that is . Thanks.

Well i had like allmost 100 or so gigs of really good quality anime. Plus 20-30 gigs of mp3s. Then software and lastly a big chunk of it was psx and ps2 iso's. lol I found myself at times with only like 2-3 gigs left. Anyways i plan on getting another pc and buying seperatly 2 250 gig HD's for that. You can never have enough space with anime.

I used two HDD, one for software(progams) such as Windows XP, Office, Photoshop, and etc, while the other is for storage such as Movies, MP3, Games, and etc.

Why copy files to a VCD. that will ruin the quality. I liked my anime on my HD because they were great quality and didnt skip or whatnot. plus id only be able to like have 1-2 eps on vcd at the most.
