Best fighting game has to be Capcom vs. SNK 2. There is still heavy competition here in the Bay Area, and its so fun to play. I will be attending a CvS2 tournament on Feb. 3rd

I think Super Street Fighter II (arcade versione) is stille one of the greatest beat'em up of all time. I prefer 2D beat'em up instead of 3D.

I'm a fan of the Virtual Fighter series...not sure why, it just grabs me for some reason. Probably because I played it on Saturn quite a bit when I was younger.

Ballz on Genesis is a fun fighting game, as well.

    - poy poy
    - last blade series
    - oni (only good third person 3D fighting game I know. A game by Bungie before they got famous with that other game).

I think I spent much more time playing the unknown fighters than the mainstream ones, so I guess they'd be my favourites.

But mebe poy poy and ragugaki showtime fit more in the category of battling games such as bomberman? is there even such a category? certainly not merely action or puzzler or action-puzzler.

Definately the Tekken Series and the next addition (Tekken 5) which in development at the moment looks awesome.

Mmhm, those, and especially Tekken 3 (never liked Tekken 4 quite as much, though it does have fancy bewb animations) were my favourites - up until I got Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution. You should try it out, if you haven't already... Unless you prefer the comparatively greater simplicity of the Tekken games (or have trouble finding a VF character you're very at home with, which I to some extent do to this day), you might very well like Virtua Fighter more.
