Yes true shame, although it would be more of a shame when you die. I'de fake you out with a few wave dashes with marth.

Soul Calibur for Dreamcast, none of that #2 crap.
I seriously loathe VF4. The earlier Saturn versions were fun, but this was 'meh' at best. =\
Anything Capcom from the early SNES era to date. Capcom's fighters never lose their charm, no matter how old. Those collaborative projects with Marvel/SNK also included.
Other than Capcom's 2D fighters, I would say Namco's Soul Calibur II and Tekken.
Street Fighter Series. Nothing can compare to the l33tn3ss it has. Nothin!!!

I do agree with you about Capcom's fighters, in that they are some of my favorites. I still play Marvel VS Capcom 2 all the time. However, they do tend to lose thier charm after the millionth iteration of what is essentially the same game.
See, Capcom likes to rest on thier laurels, and that has led to complacency. When you see great 2-D fighters such as the Guilty Gear series come to the market bringing along some cool innovations, it becomes harder to stomach the fact that Capcom hasn't released a truly innovative fighter since Street Fighter Alpha III. In fact, thier recent release, ironically entittled Capcom Fighting Evolution, didn't evolve the genre at all.
Indeed. Capcom's fault lies there. They've found the successful formula, but failed to improve on it. Instead, we're given a reincarnation of the same system with little to no difference. Fighting Evolution is pretty entertaining if taken as another Capcom fighter, but in terms of evolution, it brought none.Originally Posted by Cyberxion
Well, even after saying what I did, I tend to give Capcom alot of leeway when it comes to thier new games being mere retreads of successes past. Chalk it up to nostalgia, but Capcom's fighters will always have a place in my heart. Even so, I didn't find myself able to get into CFE at all. The game's terrible balancing issues were chiefly to blame, with it's bare-bones gameplay coming in at a close second. Pitting a character from say, Street Fighter, against the Darkstalkers characters just wasn't fun. I understand that Capcom wanted to put characters from different games together with thier unique fighting styles intact, but they still could've stood to balance the gameplay a bit to compensate for the gross differences between them. Also, the game simply felt like a step back when you take into account what Capcom's done in the past. You choose a team of two from a mish-mash of characters from different Capcom fighters, and that's it. There's no unique gameplay elements in action, and again, what is here is imbalanced to the point of being tedious. It's a shame really, when you take into account that Capcom vs SNK 2 was far more polished, and alot more fun. This game just reeks of a ploy to make money. It's basically a game formed from low effort and a reliance on the tried-and-true, rather then an attempt to actually serve up some innovations and a reason for gamers to play it.Originally Posted by Megalith
Well, aside from some changes in balancing, they're pretty much the same game. Just like the Tekken series in fact. Namco seems to be pulling a Capcom with those two series, making each new iteration only a small bit different from the last. They're still great games, but yeah, Soul Calibur 1 and 2 are almost essentially the same game.
I'm a big fan of the earlier incarnations of Street Fighter 2 (though to be honest, pre-Alpha, they were all pretty much the same game...). Chalk it up to nostalgia or whatever, but I still find them much more playable than a heck of a lot of newer games.
Soulblade is probably my favourite 3D fighting game to date. People tend to acknowledge Soul Calibur as a groundbreaking game, but Soulblade was wonderful back in the day, I can't count how many hours I must've spent with it. While I know Calibur and Calibur 2 are, in all respects, better games, Soulblade has a special place in my heart![]()
