    Default Programs...

I downloaded some programs/abandonware like Warcraft 1 and Civilation 1 that are meant for DOS/Windows 95 and they close instantly when I click them...I see the window for a second and then it's gone...I tried to set it to run in compatibility mode for windows 95 but they still close...It's probably something with my settings...Anyway...Thnks

Those are MS-DOS based games, although I've gotten many DOS programs to work on Windows XP, I prefer to use a Windows 9x-based or DOS-based system to run these programs. If you want to check what's wrong you should try running these programs from the command line. It's possible to get DOS games to work with sound using VDMsound (although the Adlib/OPL emulation is a bit off compared to the real thing, and some games may run slow with VDMsound).

If you're familiar with working in command line, DOSBox may be perfect for you. It will emulate the DOS environment on your PC, and supports most games.
