I agree with that... FF used to be great, then it became a mass-market gimmick... Here's hoping they go back to its roots...

"Mainstream" gamers was the term I used a few posts back -- It's gonna pick up, I swear! :O!

I wouldn't have agreed with you, were it not for all these FFVII tie-ins that Square is hell-bent on releasing in the future. We've got the FFVII movie, an FFVII cell-phone game, an FFVII PS2 game, and an FFVII PSP game, all coming by the end of next year. And who knows what else they'll annouce, eh? Maybe FFVII underwear, or an FFVII brand douche, for those times when you need to feel "Midgar Fresh"....

The sad part is that you know that somewhere out there is someone who would buy those...

I totally agree. Whilst most FF games are good, the sheer amount of hype and spin-offs (Ehrgeiz, anyone?) have blown the series entirely out of proportion. There is little room to dispute their quality, but as far as games go, I fail to see anything special or significant about them. To be honest, with the exception of the first few games, FF7 was the only game in the series that I found particularly original or groudbreaking. But hey, that's just my opinion. It has to be said that I prefer Chrono Trigger anyway.

iam a hardcore final fantasy fan but i don't think that everyone of them was great, there is only 4 i really like, ffiv, ffvi, ffvii, ffviii. from there on its just sad. ten was decent and ffx-2 is trash. i won't even talk about ffxi and iam gonna hope that ffxii is as different as they say it will be. it seems like you guys are trashing everthing that become famous, there are some famous series that are good, i seriouly doubt that you can find any rpg game for ps2 that can compare to ffx, (exept suikoden 3, because i love that series more then anything and if you guys trash it iam gonna go beserk).

i seen someone talking about shemune for xbox earlier. i love that game, that is as real life as it can be, its not just one of those GTA games, that game model everything about real life. it takes dedication to play that game, cuz its time consuming, which is why most people hate it. iam looking forward to the shemune online that is comming out and the third one.

Cell phone game??? For real? Is it cool? . I have a fluffy Cloud, I always talk to him when I go to sleep.
I'm just a lurker these days, I feel like an 80 year old gramps, watching his grand children play outside *sigh*

No, no, I like plenty of 'famous' games, but there is a clear difference between 'famous' and 'quality' most of the time.

    My thoughts of Halo:
It is innovative. But, innovation for the FPS genre is innovaton of a different kind. The FPS genre is stale, with not many fresh ideas coming in. The last time I heard of an FPS concept that sounded really original was System Shock 2. Setting aside, story aside, all FPS' are quite the same. Therefore, unless a series of games coming out redefines the genre with new elements, The FPS genre will have to stick to what little innovation it can acheive without breaking the dusty old traditions set by Doom. Improved AI, graphics, maps etc.
Therefore, until developers take a risk with the genre and release a FPS with original conventions, then innovation in regards to the FPS genre will remain very much at a surface level.

i agree with what toto said totally. there are no innovative fps out yet. so i suggest why not make a fps thats just like real life. where you can get cripple and it doesn't take half a second for you to regain health. if you get shot in the arm, you can't keep on shooting a gun. where you can use anything around you as a weapon, and make hand to hand combat available (very few games have). the only innovative thing about halo is that it gives you the choice of getting the enemy's weapon, which very few games do. if there is a game that has the following, then its an innovative fps game.

True. FFX sucks compared to Disgaea or Kingdom Hearts.

About every second Half-life mod ever made? Okay, perhaps not half, but there are a hell of a lot of them similar to what you said.

He got into video games around when tomb raider one came out on the dos..and then he played that..then forgot about games until they gave him an xbox and halo from work, and he played that and was amazed by the game engine, and now he plays halo and he also plays alot of grand theft auto...which is wierd...
