All I can say is that for the moment, a lot of things have already been done. It's hard to come up with new stuff 'cause it requires a lot of imagination, where as you could just fall into a comfortable median for writing that'll probably get more attention anyways than if you were an unknown without a genre.
I don't listen to any original bands, really. Maybe <b>erasethegrey</b>, but that's only 'cause they have four vocalists out of five band members, and everyone plays an instrument. However, they are indeed good.
