    Default You recommend....?

I need music recommendations...just...anything. I pretty much like all kinds of music, I'm rather strange that way. Anyway, if you think of something of course....

The Mars Volta. I like them quite a bit, and I think I will continue to. You said you're weird like that, and The Mars Volta are as weird as they come (well, not really, but pretty weird).

    The World/Inferno Friendship Society.
    These guys = awesome.
    That is all.

*edit: No, that is not all, really. I suggest you listen to this and this first. Then, if you like what you hear, give The Bridgewater Astral League a try... and then go and buy their new album.

Here's some recommendations. Where possible, I'll provide legal links to some downloads that maybe available for each band/artist.

Sleepytime Gorrila Museum - Grand Opening and closing
Very theatrical almost prog-avante noise/grind...argh. very difficult to put this in a slot. Reminds me of the Residents meets Godflesh.

    MP3:
    Sleep Is Wrong
    1997

Clutch - Elephant Riders / Jam Room/ Pure Rock Fury

    Jesu - Heartache
Justin Broadrick's latest post Godflesh band. This is more of a continuation of Godflesh than anything else Justin has produced. very dark, very, very hypnotic.

    Ram (Realplayer required):
    Heartache
    Ruined

Self - Breakfast With Girls / Gizmodgery / Subliminal; Plastic Motives
    Wonderfully inventive pop music.

    MP3:
    Busy Sending Me
    Resurect
    Cannon
Truck Full Of Amps (contains a swear word)

Other bands I'd recomend checking out:

    Kaada - www.kaada.no
    Fantomas - www.ipecac.com
    Millionaire - www.millionaire-theband.com
    Dukes Of Nothing - www.dukesofnothing.com

Hope you find this information useful.

Blargh... another large reccomendation list to write? Well, I'll start with the basics: check out the band In Flames. If you like this genre(melodic Death metal), I'll fill you in on several more similar bands.
If you were a bit more specific(like in genre or were looking for similar bands), it would be easier to give you some reccomendations.
Songs by In Flames you should listen to:
    Artifacts of the Black Rain*
    Man Made God**
    Colony*
    Only For the Weak***
    Embody the Invisible*
    Clayman*
    Pinball Map
    Ordinary Story
Behind Space(and the newer '99 version)***
Clad in Shadows(also has a newer '99 version)*
    The Quiet Place
    Moonshield**
    The Jester Race
    Dead Eternity*
    Jotun*
    and lastly Episode 666*.

I know it's a lot, but check em all out. I'm sure you'll like it if you like metal at least one bit. It has lots of melodies(meaning it sounds very cool), but it's still very heavy in a sense.
Make sure you listen to the ones with asterisks first, cause I'm sure those will hook you on. I fell in love with "Pinball Map" the first time I heard it. They're my favorite band if you can't tell.

Oh yeah, if you like thrash metal(Metallica): check out Megadeth(start with this one), Anthrax, and Slayer.

Classic Heavy metal: Manowar, Iced Earth, Hammerfall, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden(get their best hits album), Blind Guardian(it's really fast, yet still melodic), Black Sabbath(pretty much invented metal), Ozzy Osbourne(Black Sabbath spinoff )

Rock: Guns n Roses, Heroes del Silencio(from Spain ), Hardline(melodic hard rock), Led Zeppelin, Melon Diesel(and their song "Grita"), Queensryche, Oasis, Mr. Big(and the song "Shine"), Crush 40, Tool, and Audioslave.

Grunge/Alt. Rock: Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Placebo, Bush, Foo Fighters, Incubus... The Cranberries, naturally(although they're indie Rock)

Punk/Punk Rock: Asian Kung-Fu Generation(Japanese), Sex Pistols and Bad Religion.

Death Metal(you might not like this at first, it's like In Flames but without so many melodies): Cannibal Corpse, Avulsed, Decapitated, Insision, and Arsis(this one's more melodic, see my thread about this awesome band).

Hip-hop: Beastie Boys, Limp Bizkit, and Rage Against the Machine is all I can think of.

Hardcore/MetalCore: See our discussion on Hardcore(a thread), lots of bands listed there. If you like Slipknot or anything similar, you love this genre.

Black Metal(basically dark Satanic/Pagan metal, fast but hard to listen to, you have to develop a liking for it): Naglfar, Dimmu Borgir, and Bathory should get you started on this genre.

Doom metal(very cool dark and slow metal): Black Sabbath(they're also classic HM, but what the hell), Green Carnation, Katatonia... just see my thread called "d00m metal".

Techno or whatever: Gorilaz, Fisherspooner, Dj Doboy, Dj Shadow(listen to "Organ Donor", then get his album Endtroducing), Fatboy Slim, Boom Boom Satellites/DJ Krush... too many DJ's to list.

Folk Metal(mix folk music with metal): Finntroll(great), Moonsorrow(almost as great as Finntroll), Mago de Oz(from my country ), Nebelhexe(more like ambient). That's all that comes to mind.
If you're into pop I can't really help you there, I'm not a mainstream listener.

Oh yeah, don't forget classical musicians such as Mozart, Beethoven, Pachelbel, etc.

Yeah, they're nice fellas too. Lucky enough to see them when they played a tiny club gig here a year or so ago. Excellent musicians. I'd recommend Jam Room to my grandmother if she wasn't deaf.

Oh geez, I need to bookmark this thread, thank you very much! Didn't expect this much response within a night.

Yeah, and I don't want to be a mainstream listener anyway, I hear the same stuff all the time on tv and on the radio and it's pissing me off because nobody seems to want to discover anything but the advertised and MTV supported shit.

I recommend that everyone in the free world buy at least one Rammstein album. Except for Sehnsucht, if you're only buying it for "Du Hast". Personally I'd recommend their latest album, "Mutter". And they have a new one comeing out like next month or the month after. Go to http://herzeleid.com and follow the link on the front page to watch the video for their new single.

Aside from Rammstein, I reccomend The Puhdys, another German band that's been around since like the '60's, and just a few years ago went metal. Pretty good stuff. Also Joachim Witt is cool. As you can tell I don't listen to much American stuff. Mostly German/Japanese. Ayumi Hamasaki is good for Jpop. Oh yeah, and anyone who likes metal needs to listen to Zao. Christian band, but you'd never know it. But yeah, Rammstein. Definitely.

Of course, how could I forget the awesome German band Rammstein. Hmm... probably cause they're the only industrial metal band I know besides White Zombie and The Berzerker. Indeed, check them out. They have many awesome songs, such as:
    Sehnsucht
    Spiel Mit Mir
    Weisses Fleisch
Asche zu Asche(actually funny if you understand the pun in the song).
    Engel
    Rammstein
    Laichzeit
    Seemann
    Sonne
    Links 2 3 4
    Nebel
    Mutter
    Feuer Frei
    Zwitter
    Hallelujah
    Rein Raus(mainly about sex)
    and Tier.
There are tons more worth listening, but these should blow you out of your chair for now. Oh yeah, don't bug me about the spelling, I checked it myself.
/me sings Zwitter with his Rammstein-ish voice.
