Thread: On the "Big Brother society".

Default On the "Big Brother society".

...As in that whole thing about our lives being monitored by the government or what ever, mind you. The TV show sucks ass.

On to what I'm talking about.
To simplify the subject, I'm going to use the recent phenomenon that is Gmail. There are rumours that Google is going to monitor the e-mails of Gmail accounts. How true this is is irrelevant at the moment. In any case, if they do monitor them, so what? I can see how terrorists and what not would be troubled by it, but I couldn't care less. I mean, what's going to happen? They're going to take my steaming e-mails of cyber loving and post them on the site, ruining my reputation as an honorable, moral citizen? Riiight...
So, what I'm saying is this: as long as what ever you're doing is legal, you should have no problem with any administration observing anything you do. They'll gain access to personal information, but that should be fine as long as they're not releasing it to the public.

Personally, I don't care if the government watches me dance naked. I have nothing to hide and those who bitch about privacy do. Simple as that. Sure things could get out of hand, but who cares about the other things in the world that need to be fixed? Oh that's right, no one since it doesn't directly affect them. Boo hoo to all those who want to have "privacy"

Actually, our privacy is supposed to be protected in our Bill of Rights.

(Note to lesser countries/foreigners: This policy may not apply to you.)

I personally don't like the government being able to monitor my shit. I'm not afraid of them or anything, but honestly, how much power do you want them to have?

I wonder why they don't like commies.

The freedom of privacy is not specificly mentioned in the Bill of Rights. It is interpreted by Supreme Court Justices of the past. This "right" could easily be taken away if the current justices interpret the Bill of Rights or Constitution differently. This is because of their power of judicial review established by the Marshall court to interpret and review all laws and the Constitution.

I can't believe I didn't see this post before. I don't know if it's supposed to be serious or not.

Having privacy is part of freedom...

And we don't need to have no privacy for freedom...I hate this damn pricetag the gov likes to put on freedom.

Ok, are you willing to pay for your freedom? Most people aren't. They don't like taxes. Nothing comes free. Invading privacy is a cheap quick way for security.

Pay for my freedom? I don't quite follow you. I don't have a problem with taxes but the fact that so much of that money is fucking wasted is a problem to me.

Invading privacy doesn't give us security. If there is anyone to be worried about I'd say it's our government.

Freedom isn't inherent. Freedom is an illusion. Sure you can live on your own, but eventually you'll be dead. Unless you are omnipotent, you need someone to provide services and protection for you. Do you realize how many criminals get away free just because someone didn't file a fucking stupid piece of paper, or they illegally taped a conversation? That's just fucking stupid. "Oh...yeah this proves the person is guilty....but.... since the information was obtained illegally we can't use it to incriminate....*screams of horror*" Sure, privacy laws keep some things in check, but it just isn't worth it considering all the other things it allows.

Evidence that was obtained illegally can still be used over here. Zing. But anyway, mushindo's right... Is that angst I smell?
