The posters that suggested castration, although they were half joking, have actually brought up a pretty good point. I think convicted sex offenders should be forced to have their reproductive organs surgically removed. Not only would it prevent them from doing this kind of thing again, it would deter others, as most men would do anything to hang on to their manhood...

I know what you mean, but I was referring to the different criminal treatment that such actions have in some states/countries, I wasnt referring to the US... sometimes the criminal laws are not severe enough (i.e. in Spain...)

Dunno what kind of crime its there in Sacramento or what penalty will carry, but in the countries that have no penalty death or life imprisonment, the more they will impose on him will be just a few years in jail (or a mental institution if his insanity is proved)... too less imho considering that if he survives to be executed there, he'll be a re-offender in a near future....

Its true that the common people forming a jury are not gonna sympathize with him... too bad not all the countries have the jury institution to judge those cases, the judges tend to apply the law more "profesionally", so its hard for them to be influenced by that kind of considerations. Also, the penalty as a way to socialize criminals, and not only as a mere punishment, inspires many penal systems and its deeply settled in lots of judges minds
