Lightbulb Why major record companies need to doie.

Major record companies are killing independent music. They specifically pay radio stations to play there music and with the worst part the artist only get about 5-20 cents for every $18 cd they sell and the rest goes to the companies.

eh, there's so many levels to talk about so i'll leave it to others to comment Basically, I think everyone should sell their music online by their own means, or through a p2p site in addition to being published. Just don't let the publisher take all your rights away when you sign the contract and it can be done

Yeah, i think musicians should just leave a room for storage, wait for people to order it and ship it out.

its obviously the better route to take, even with booking their own shows other than producers because they screw ya over too by wanting like half or more of the door money and shit, its rediculous

yeah, big record companies suck! If artists sold their own music...they could sell it so much cheaper!

I'm pretty sure that for tours etc. it's the artist who generates a lot more money from it, compared to how much the label gets, whih is usually why labels don't like their artists staying out the studio for too long. I'm referring to non-manufactured bands here like Dream Theater, not *Nsync or whatever pop crap is on MTV nowadays.

Also, I think it's fu</>cking disgraceful that through the law suits the RIAA has been dishing out, and the ones that may soon be happening here in Britain, not a single piece of cash will go to the artists.

I laugh at their failure at an attempt to stop the transfer of music online. The amount of money they can gain from these lawsuits is totally insignificant to them...they just want to scare people. Not only that all the pay online services are pretty much a mockery of the whole thing with how much they cost....Besides that it is pretty fucked the artists get no compensation....but of course they don't the record companies could care less.

The music industry has seriously lost insane amounts of funds from p2p sharing. Now they don't sign as many bands, and the number is decreasing. Did you know that by late 2007 all music will be sold online and music cds will be obsolete? That's what all the big rigs predicted when they got together for their meeting to predict the future of their business. :O

OH well, but you know. artists, even though they dont gain much from each cd they dont complain, and its all because they win lots of money from 20 cents or whatever it is they get. Get my point?

I can't possibly see CDs becoming completely obsolete. As a matter of fact, a lot of the losses can't even be proven to be linked to p2p. There are actually a lot of other factors there. If I can be bothered to I'll find the essay i wrote on this. People who are burning CDs and selling them in bulk, the big pirating operations, pose much more of a problem. Also the fact that new music SUCKS has to be considered. XD
