Default How Do I create a password protection thingy?

Like yours you have for the roms, that window that pops up and asks you for a username and password.

Did you use ASP, or some other means? I'm trying to make a rom site, but I dont want ppl just downloading the stuff.

I do not want java, anyone can hack into that... I would like either ASP, or something else that works. I do have Visual Studio .NET 2002.

    Help Please!

You can password protect the files themselves also. Just open the .zip and then go to FILE:ADD A PASSWORD.

But making passwords on .zip files is so fun!!! Then they DOWNLOAD it without KNOWING and they try to unzip it and BOOm bwhahahahahah. Password protected.

Of course, I am sure there are ways around it, but that is another thing.

Is there a way to make files and such password protected on your desktop? For example, I have a seperate folder for each of my emulators. My little brother always goes into my folders and plays my games, saving over my previous save files or completely deleting my games altogether. Is there some way to to make my folders password protected so only I can get into them?

You can make your entire desktop password protected. Or you can get a screensavor and make it password protected.

Well, we only have one computer, and my whole family uses it. I just want to keep everyone out of my game folders. Is there some way to password protect them? (ie. you can't get into the folders without the password) If there is, how would I do it?

If you have XP you can make new user accounts and password protect yours. That is what I do before friends come over. Then you add password protection to your username.

Javascript here as far as I know. Could also use htaccess and htpasswd on Apache. Or even PHP.

Secondly the hackability of java can easily be countered by using a htaccess to stop people from downloading the class files .

Reboot, press f8 before the windows is loading screen popups, select safe mode, login as admin, the right click on your games folder, properties and then security if I remember correctly.

That is correct. It is a bug in Windows Home Edition to allow you to protect files. I saw it on TechTV. It was only supposed to work on XP Pro, but you can do that if you have XP Home.

That's bullshit, it's already included if you add a password to your account, it'll ask you if you want to personalize your account which basically does the same as the security setting on files. Should check out the files you have "personalised" as admin.
