I can understand their reasons for doing it, but it would cost a hell of a lot of money and there'd be a lot of hassle in setting it up. And Del Boys right, the FBI have better things to do than see who's downloading ISOs.

For those of you who said you think dial-up is safer you need to re-read the article phone companies are already required to allow wire-tapping.

Not if they had a warrent.

true but even then they still need proable cause to even get a warrent. if its to track down terrist or child molesters etc yes.. but just to track down iso downloaders... i dont see them getting a warrent just for that. also mind you by US law wire tapping wont hold up in court to convict becasue you have to give consent to the wire tapping to begin with.

Not true really. Im a proud republican, and I think this is stupid, it sounds like something the Clinton administration would do. Its further proof, that the Republica party has been dilluted.

I cant believe they would do this, It doesnt even make since for them too have time to sort through all the messages on the internet.

Anybody want to test to see how effective this is?

Uh, Clinton was a democrat. Republicans are all about bigger government and sticking their nose in everything in order to ensure that rules and regulations are followed.

Canada. The US is quickly losing it's status of being all about freedom.

If this happens then watch the encryption software skyrocket Thus making the FBIs life hell if they try to tap an internet connection due to all the encrypted data that might be going over the network, which they'll have to decrypt. Once they have decrypted it a new encryption protocol might be around, etc.... . Basically what the FBI is getting itself into is a big headache. Might catch a few people that don't use encryption, but a real terrorist will most likely use some sort of encryption.

Republicans are for SMALLER governments. Lowering taxes doesnt make a government bigger, raising them does.

Just name 5, only rule they cant be in Africa or South America, I dont consider them too be really free, because they have so many revolutions down there, and the police wont do anything.

Encryptions will get better, but the Governments will always have better encryption and decryption services.

"The last budget under Clinton was $1.86 trillion (FY 2001); Bush's first budget was $2.01 trillion, an 8% increase. In Bush's third budget, authored by Bush and approved by a wholly Republican Congress, spending was about $2.27 trillion. That's an astounding 22.7% increase over Clinton's last year!"

Funny, Bush lowers taxes yet spends more. I'm sure that makes for a great balanced budget.

"Since President Bush took office, the federal government's domestic civilian workforce has increased by more than 79,000 jobs, nearly a 5 percent increase. And the number of government workers paid at least $130,000 annually has tripled.

Much of the increase came with the creation of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security two years ago. But the nation's war on terrorism does not account for all of the rise. The Department of Health and Human Services, for example, has added 1,445 employees since President Bill Clinton left office."

While Republicans say they're for smaller government, it's funny how government just seems to expand with them.

How can people be saying that dial up is going to be more secure? WTF! If they change all the protracols to allow the FBI to securely tap everyone then, being the intire internet thats affected, how does the way you connect alter that??

and so far 128 bit encryption hasnt even been cracked and thats used a fair bit online already. What do they plan to achieve?... whatever it is I bet they cant do it.
