Genuinelly I was not intentionally any more abrasive with you than I would be towards anyone else who had made the same posts as you.

I simply tried to stand firm on the points that I was making (obviously both standing on the wrong bit of land with regards to what we were discussing though).

Personally I really don't give anyone special treatment - I treat everyone with the same deal of respect that I myself would expect in return.

I understand, and that's something I've always admired about you. Eh, this whole thing goes way beyond this thread, and don't really include you, so there was no point saying anything about it. Sorry for wasting everyone's time with this off topic discussion.

Although most don't enforce any bandwidth limits. My ISP (Telus) has a 1GB/month up and 5GB/month down limit for my unlimited connection. I usually upload well over 1GB every day and haven't had any problems

Soujiro-san. Rogers is kinda bad about bandwidth limits :\ I know a few people who have gotten letters from them. Send Rogers a email and tell them you just discovered you had a virus and you've resolved the bandwidth problem. Then knock down your downloading/uploading 20/30%, just so you're not one of their worst offenders, and start looking for a new ISP. When you get a new ISP lined up go nuts on them. Download and upload as much as humanly possible Oh, and I don't know how good Sympatico in Ontario is, but Telus's ISP over here in BC used to be called Sympatico so I imaging their policies are simalar.

I'll do that...LOL, thx for the heads up. They're really annoying...I guess I'll look around and see how sympatico is. I'm not going to switch yet. Many of my BC friends are on Telus...and they abuse that bandwidth like mad LOL

Also, You really live up to your nickname ==> sideshow bob

This was actually a very entertaining post...one that I wouldn't expect to get so much ppl discussing...esp. b/w admins + mods

as I said before look for a T1 company...just search on google for your city, or a city near you, and put T1 after it, see what you come up with.

Del boy is right on his side of the disgussion the 'unlimited' offer is a load of rubbish as they sell the same offer to every customer, yet if even half there customers all maxed out on bandwidth they would not sustain the speed.
Therefore the FACT that there is a limit remains.

The reason you are able to download and upload so friggin much is because of the huge amount of customers they get who get a fast connection and only use it for webpages, email and chatrooms.

I'm pretty sure that I have unlimited usage. My connection is through my phone company. They've disconnected my phone line temporarily but my broadband is still on amazingly.

One of my friends keeps asking me how I am still connected to the internet even though I have no phone connection. I told him I don't know, does anybody here know the answer?

Well broadband doesn't use phone lines . It either uses DSL connection or cable connection. I don't think I know any other broadband connections other than those two.

My dad recieved something like that. You see, we sare our internet with the people that rent our basement. Anyways, our limit is 6 GB download and 2 GB upload. We had used 76 GB Downloading and somewhere around the 20's uploading. Let's just say the people in the basement like to download movies. A LOT.

EDIT: That was Shaw. Now we're on Telus.

...Really? Isn't DSL hooked up through your phone line? Back when I used Qwest's crappy DSL, I got tons of downtime because of the fact that the phone lines in my area are apparently pretty damned old.

Oh, and I had the DSL connected....through the phone line, so I guess my question is kinda silly. I know it uses phone lines.

With this subscription of my DSL, I recieved a green cord labeled DSL cable which is connected to a HUB which is connected to my Computer through a Ethernet cable. My phone line is connected to the HUB so I guess the DSL cable can support phone calls as well.

I think phone lines have something like 6 wires in them, two of which are used for phone calls. DSL, which also runs through the phone line, uses the other 4.

I'm probably wrong here, but not too far off...

Right. But I doubt you'd be able to connect to the net without that phone line, eh?
