Default Difference between Cd's and CDR's

What is the difference between CD's and CDr's??? I know CDR's are burnable and all, but why are they either gold or blue bottom when regular cd's are silver. I mean when the CD's was recorded in the Studio, weren't the songs burned onto a disk? So why are they silver when the CDR's are gold/blue. One's burnable and the other was once burned. Any ideas?

I thought CD and CD-R's where the same thing?

But I know that CD-R's can only be burned once, while CD-RW can be burned on, over and over again

CD, Compact Disc, it is read only.
CD-R, Compact Disc Recordable, you can burn things onto these. (usually 80min/700mb and 1x-48x)
CD-RW, Compact Disc Re-Writeable, you can burn things onto these and then erase what you burnt, and reburn w/e you want. (80mins/700mb, 1x-10x)
DVD, Digital Video Disk for movies
DVD-R, Digital Video Disc Recordable, can record movie or data (4.7gb, 1x-2x)
I don't think there are DVD-RWs out yet.

Okay the difference between a CD and a CD-R is a little to big to explain one post so I'll give you a link to a site that has all of the info. You want the difference between duplication and replication.

A short explanation. Regular CDs are not burnt. That would take too much time. Instead there is a stamp made for that CD. It is then stamped onto the new CDs. A CD-R is a premanufatured, unstamped CD. The data is then burnt onto the surface of it.

knowitman is right about the stamping. It would take too much time to actually do a spin burn of a cd and your limited to a max of 52 speed when it comes to spining a disk before it explodes on you.

As far as the colors different dye's are able to burn at a much more stable burn rate because of reflection of the dye and such.

Graphics, and 3D polygons don't make great games, story-lines do!!
