Thread: Rants about the School Systems

So basically the majority of you are advocates of apprenticeship?

The problem with school is that the majority of it isn't meant to be a preparation for a specific career. Mostly it is meant to teach discipline and form some kind of critical thinking skills, but I'm sure you'd all agree those are things that just aren't taught anymore. Elementary school has become a preparation for high school, high school preparation for college, college for a career; there's no vision in the system. It's like people are being taught to look at their feet instead of where those feet are taking them.

The educational system as it is now just teaches you to ask, "What's next?", instead of teaching you how to determine what's next on your own.

right on...i agree with that totaly. School takes so much away from you...they expect so much from you. So were not supposed to have time to go out friday night. Look, my friends got some bad grades...so now their fun is gone cause they had to study all weekend...its a *****. It is pretty easy to stay on top of school, but imo, you have to say bye bye to a lot of fun...you can still have fun...just not as much...and that when your life isn't ****ed up...what happens with kids that have problems at home or elsewhere!!???!?!?! ****ing shit...pisses me off so much...

I actually miss school. Perhaps it's the lonelyness of Being in a country that many people want to be in but with the one thing... I don't have anyone to talk to other than Online...
I Like online friends and all... but I would prefer real people to hangout with... in the past 5 months I have hung out with my friends for one week when I went to Yokohama.

after that it's just been me and my wife. Japanese people are not open and friendly like americans are... so... Yeah it's pretty lonely. now to be on the subject and not on a tangent... I actually think Kushiel(liked your old name better) should deal with the work... Trust me knowledge is a good thing... tedious work is good too... in the long run that is. What i wouldn't give to do highschool over again~ I would actually put more of an effort into. Not that I ever failed a class (graduated early with a 3.5gpa) But i didn't give it my all. The way I was raised is that I had to do everything for all my family members. My stepmom was an evil wench that treated me like cinderella ( had to do all my stepsisters chores and all) because she is sick with some weird disease that is more than likely her fault because she is sooo damn negative. But I will stop there my life is too long and hard to write in one sitting. hehe.

But like I was saying I was raised doing what I was told and not arguing back... and this could be a good thing and a bad thing. Just depends on how you look at it. I mean you can't blame a teacher for trying to teach you something... Heck it's their job. But yeah... I agree some teachers are worse than others... you just got to cope with the system and beat it. Your a smart guy I know you can do it.

as for PE... hmmm I was one of those good at sports kinda guy... I may look small and all... but can play football like no tomorrow. favorite sport is hockey. I actually like pain. so yeah it works~ Just gotta think about things. No one can make you angry sad mad happy and all... you react on your own that way. So if you want to look at things in a good way then you can. Just remember that everything happens for a reason. Even though you can't quite see it yet. Hand in there. You can do it~.....

so umm yeah... that was my speech... I will go about my things now~

    Enjoy~

hmm, this is slightly off topic, but has to do with teaching and Japanese!!
Can someone who knows Japanese start a thread to teach those who dont know it japanese (like myself). Or just PM me with your MSN if you want to teach ME one on one.

Also the education system does suck ass, I had a teacher (of chemistery) who only got us to copy from books and the board, and expected ALOT of work from each lesson where there really wasnt enough time to do just the copying out, let alone understanding. Damn that sucked. He also always said he could explain if we were behind, but if anyone said that they didnt get it, then he more flew off into a rage and starts yelling really loud.

I'm currently taking japanese and I must say that I suck at the momemt. But I can teach what I know which would be writing systems, some grammar, and general vocab. Though, I guess nihonjintaylor may be a better candidate as he has a tad more experience with it than I do

Not to go off topic but here is a link http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~thoureau/japanese.html
EDIT: Just so you know that link is a joke so you guys can have something to
smile at seeing almost everyone here is having a hard time in school

Also school is going okay for me, I have A's in all my classes except for English Honors which I have a B in. The system is going extremly well for a state that has the school systems on budget due to a stupid governer not going to mention any names just his initials Gray Davis. I am in 9th grade and yes I hate school too much panick. I just learned I needed glasses and we have no insurence yet until a bit more and my glasses cost me 225 US dollars so I worry about not forgetting them in school, and also I always think I forgot something which I hate because I cannot even sleep sometimes because of the worrying I do. Yeah school sucks for me because I barely have any free time. Well I hate school and my teachers say college is better so hopefully they are right. Well I guess this isn't really negative but to make it negative, high school sucks, they will probably be the worst 4 years of my life seeing how they make a giant influence on what college I get to go on. So to summerize everything I just said, high school sucks.

Yeah man, I know exactly how you feel, teachers are bloody fascists. My maths teacher got annoyed just because I stood up in the middle of class, walked over to his desk and started playing with his computer, what kind of a bastard is he? I blame the government.

My own idiocy aside, however, I have two weeks left to learn the entire year's curriculum of mathematics at year 12 level. My maths teacher spent classes teaching us about life in the USA and fighting in 'Nam rather than on maths. It's a sad, sad day when you realise you know more about Thanksgiving and Independence Day celebrations than calculus. President pardons the turkey, eats a different one anyway, blah blah blah fireworks die.

And you are asking why he got angry when you started fiddling with his comp in the middle of the class...

It doesn't pay to take me seriously, kiddies.

Mind you I'm younger than a lot of you blokes. Bloody hell.

So if you are young and don't want to be taken seriously, then don't post. People post here regardless of age and over here people sometimes post to argue with others (like me) so you have live with that fact. If you don't feel nice about it, then don't say things that make you look like a sissy.
