    Default DKR Issues...

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but it seem like a pretty good ROM place, so i actually subscribed and all that. Now, I'm having some trouble getting a Diddy Kong Racing ROM to work. I'm not sure if it's the ROM, the emulator, or the video plugin. The sound is just great, and the controller responds, I can tell because of the sounds, but the screen is just black, and after a while turns light blue. 2-D images seem to work also, but only in the size of the sprite. For instance, the normal intro would have the Rareware logo spinning around, and after a few seconds it says the copyright info at the bottom of the screen. When that pops up, I get white rectangles where the text should be. The menus all do the same thing. So, is this a ROM, Emulator, or Video plugin issue?

By the way, I use HLE2064 and have tried tr64, new tr64, rice, jabo's d3d, and a couple others that didn't work

What system specs do you have? Answer this question (graphics card is the most important) I will help you out further.

BTW, is it a good rom, usually good roms will have (!) after the name.

Umm... It's Diddy Kong Racing (U) (v1.0) [b1].v64 So it might not be a good ROM... As for system specs, it's pretty good. I have an overclocked Athlon XP 1700, a Radeon 9700, and 512Mb of pc3000 RAM (also overclocked). It runs F-Zero great at 1600x1200 with Anti-Aliasing even, but it won't even display anything for DKR.

That's your problem the rom, the [b1] signifies it is a bad rom, check back on this post in a minute I may be able to help

BTW, you should try using Orkins OpenGL plugin for amazing results on your Radeon9700.

Ok, now that i've got that stuff, which patch should i use? there's 9 different IPS files concerning DKR, and i don't know which to get. None have a [!] or (!) after the names, so which one do i use? I'll list 'em all off here:

    Diddy Kong Racing (E) (v1.0) [F1].ips
    Diddy Kong Racing (E) (v1.0) [H1].ips
    Diddy Kong Racing (U) (v1.0) [B1].ips
    Diddy Kong Racing (U) (v1.0) [F1].ips
    Diddy Kong Racing (U) (v1.0) [F1][H1] (cartname).ips
    Diddy Kong Racing (U) (v1.0) [F2].ips
    Diddy Kong Racing (U) (V1.0) [O1].ips
    Diddy Kong Racing (U) (V1.0) [O1][F1].ips
    Diddy Kong Racing (U) (V1.0) [O2].ips

Also, i got that different video plugin, and now I can't play F-Zero. Guess it's not the right plugin for me...

That plugin doesn't work for every game, (just like all the others) but for the ones it does it is a revelation especially on the Radeon9700. Rices is good too but you need 3D Analyse to work that good (disabling HW T&L)

    Use this patch btw
    Diddy Kong Racing (U) (v1.0) [B1].ips

Still doesn't work... I tried Project64, and it was actually showing the logo, then it crashed to the send error report window. Just to make sure I'm doing this right, you open IPSwin, have the .v64 file in the top box, and th .ips file in the bottom, and the .ips and .v64 should have the same name, right?

Yeah, you then should click apply patch (sounds stupid but ensure you are then pointing PJ64 to load the new patched rom, and not the old bad one).

Alright, that's what I'm doing, but to no avail. I guess i should just download a new ROM. On kazaa I found a ROM by the name of Diddy Kong Racing (U) (M2) (v1.1) [!].v64, but only one user has it with a bandwidth of 2 (!!!)... So, yeah. This could be a while.

I wouldn't use Kazaa to download roms. Check your private messages out now
