There are a heap of auctions on ebay AU for the Series X atm. Starting at around $500aud but a lot start at $750aud with bin around $1000-1200 or more.
They are a mix of EB Games and JB Hi-Fi confirmed preorders (scalpers).

Some must be scams though. Seen a couple of ads asking for a hundred bucks straight up first as a "deposit" then they'll change the delivery address or some such thing.

Hmmm, the launch preorders (10th Nov) here must've been depleted because I'm seeing people selling post launch preorders (Dec) too

I wouldn't be surprised if stocks are hard to find at Christmas/New Year over here.
We have serious supply issues, hardly any planes flying at all and surface transport is slow plus docks/warehouse side of things has slowed right down too.

A week or two ago you could've got your money back, but now idk. Things would be different there anyway as you wouldn't have the supply issues we have here.
