Front dental crown broke off last night from eating an apple, and I'm pretty sure my real tooth underneath (what's left of it) broke off with it, though it doesn't hurt (all my top front teeth are crowned). ...That's nice...

No they are not! I'll be going in today to get it fixed, if not, removed. Might require surgical procedures because of the way it broke off. I'm very worried about that.

Edit: Nope, not today. Appointment got screwed up so I gotta reschedule.

Damn that sucks. I hate when that happens. I've had crowns and had cavities re-done. It was not fun at all. Speaking of teeth, I see the dentist later this month.

Went in to show them the tooth. Tooth cannot be fixed. My worst fear is confirmed: I'll have to have surgery to remove what's left of it, and then I'll either get an implant, or a veneer. I'm scared shitless because I've never had surgery before, but I'd much rather have the implant, because it's a more permanent solution. If I get a veneer, it'll be like having a permanent retainer, and I'm not going through that sh!t again. I had to go through that all through Jr High and High School!

Oh damn that really sucks. Surgery isn't too bad. I've heard permanent retainers are the worse. I have a fake tooth, its not too bad either. Hopefully you don't have jaw problems like I did.

I wouldn't get an implant. They put a bolt in your skull and then you have to wait a bit for it to fuse and see if there's any issue. That's some serious surgery, way worse than getting root canal.

Can't you get a bridge? It's only one tooth.

I have a fake tooth. They might be able to put in a fake tooth.

    A bridge or an implant?

Good point. Maybe if I get a veneer, I'll only have to wear it in public or something. Only problem is that I can't talk anymore without slurring or whistling my words with this tooth gone. It's as close to dentures as I'll get at this age (29), and I've been trying to avoid that (most family on my mom's side, herself included, had dentures in their 20's and I'm trying not to be next). And I think to get a bridge, they'll have to shave down two of my teeth, correct? I could be wrong. One of them is a dental crown, so I don't know how that'd work, if they'd have to remove the crown to do it.

There are different types of bridges, you're probably thinking of the permanent types that uses a false tooth joined to two crowns, a framework joined at the back of the teeth and there might be some other perm types.

There's also a removable type bridge, but maybe over in the states they only refer to it as a partial denture. It's a false tooth with clasps.

The thing with bridges is that if you have one for some time, the bone and gum where the real tooth was originally will start to recede slightly. With perm types if you want to close up that gap a little you have to go back in and get some work done all over again.

Temp type with clasps dealing with the same issue isn't as complicated.

I can't afford a permanent one anyway, so I'll have to get a partial. At least with a removable bridge, I'll only have to wear it in public or something, I think, which is fine since I don't go out much anyway, sad as that sounds. Again, though, it'd probably be like a retainer, except I can maybe take it off when I want to (that's what ruined my teeth in the first place; an invisiline retainer). I don't know for sure how it's suppose to work. Either way, I'll need surgery done one way or the other to remove what's left of my broken tooth, and that's what's scaring me. I've had teeth extracted before, but I've never had any type of surgery, so I don't know what to expect.
