If it's BSG (2004) you need to get the mini series (2003) before you get S1. Mini series 720p should be like 8GB.
Yeah S1-4 even 720p are going to be largish if you don't have decent HDD space, there are SD rips from BD source though they are a lot smaller.

the one I have dling is the original and it 12.15gb oddly mine just says bd rip x264 so I'm not even sure what res it is.

Going by the size and the fact it just says bd rip x264 I'd say it's 480p, so not HD but the source was.
