2 out of the 3 free units I got are ylod, but one is working fine (well besides the 40GB HDD being dead anyway). I just swapped in a 320GB HDD last night and reinstalled 4.55 OFW.

I will inspect the 2 ylod units more closely at some point, it's also possible there might be game discs in the optical drives.

Pretty sure this one is fully intact, just been sitting in storage. I've helped him out with some stuff so I'll see what happens

If it's working and on 4.70 (or earlier) OFW there are methods to inject some old games. Not a huge library mind you, and you need an external HDD large enough to make a full backup plus a PC to run some software.

I'll probably be doing some tests at some point myself to see what I can get working.

Pretty sure if it's 3.55 (or earlier) OFW you can throw some CFW on easily without a flasher kit.

I'm just curious about what can be done on old OFW without having CFW, a CFW unit (for data transfer method) or any sort of flasher or ODDE.

I have a spare PS3 now running old OFW and an external drive large enough for a backup.
