For instance, Apples ToS for Siri enabled phones states that what you say to Siri will be sent to Apple for "improvement of service". Up to and including everything that you say while your phone has power, will be sent to Apple. That data is subject to government seizure at any point in time, and is also available to be released to, or stolen by, foreign governments and organizations, as well as any hacker who acquires it. Were that data not transmitted and stored, this wouldn't be such an issue.
Likewise M$ ToS for WinX states that the contents of private emails, and anything else you do on your machine, can and will be seen by M$. Any non-commercial applications can and will be deleted without notice. Rolling back to a non-spyware OS is a near impossibility... The list goes on and on. The fact that Corporate media and websites state otherwise means nothing. Consider them paid advertisers, trying to get people to willingly install pervasive spyware on their machine so these corporations and governments can more closely monitor you.
In before tinfoil hat: Data mining happens every day, any time you use the internet. Whether it is a malicious OS like WinX, a cell phone conversation, GPS data of your entire days travels, what porn you look at, etc. Feel free to search for the term "cookies", what they are used for, and how pervasive they are.
