Turn based gaming is a relic of pencil/paper/dice gaming and the other reason why it was used with older rpgs is because hardware resources were used for other things.
No reason for it to stick around unless you really love it for nostalgic reasons...but seriously, why?

Turn based games have their purpose in games like Civilisation and allowing the player to do things in turns you can control things as well as the AI so it can make the game more fair. Also the mechanics of turn based strategies are massively different to RTS.

Yeah to be clear like DL I meant specifically menu driven turn based rpgs. I definitely enjoy turn based games that have some depth to them.

But really these days I can barely be arsed to play something that isn't at least somewhat action oriented. Mostly playing platformers and shmups these days. Bought a bunch more PCE garbage recently.

KOTOR you could switch on/off combat menu pause iirc, which I thought was a nice idea. Maybe other games have had that but my memory isn't very good.

Baldur's Gate and the like let you set up auto pauses.
