Yeah you have a component one then. Basically you need a newer-ish tv.

Yeah very likely not, most CRT TVs are interlaced.

so the tv would have to be a minimum of progressive scan to work?

With component yes. There are composite cords and those should work with older tvs but I'd double check before buying anything.

The short of that is you'll just have to get a tv that supports progressive scan because you can only play games with the component cable. You should be able to get such a TV for free if you lurk on CL a bit.

from what I've read the psp 2000 can not play games on sdtv so buying a composite cable would be pointless for me.

the only tv's I see getting tossed are old big tvs I really don't have space for anything bigger than a 13" I have 2 27 or 32 newer( I use that term loosely) tv's that i was going to check but their size would still be an issue.

Yep. I actually did not know that until I looked just now and found the link I posted.

Just about anything marketed as an HDTV should work. I got a behemoth Sony TV for free awhile back with a lot of video processing stuff built into it and it displays PSP rather nicely. It's an effing monstrosity that seriously weighs over 200 pounds. I'd have to check the manual to be precise about it but I don't want to dig that out.

It's not one of those mongoloid super old school HDTV 40 inch plus shit though, and it is pretty decent.

You might be able to find a small lcd tv around, say anything under 60cm and if it's old it might only be 720p (which is all you need for psp iirc).
A new 60cm lcd 1080p with built in DVD player costs about $100 give or take depending on brand...that's just an indication. Something much older with lower spec wouldn't be worth much.

Because playing psp on a huge tv doesn't accomplish much. The console has a resolution output limit and using a huge tv makes games look bad.

With old crt tvs you can google the model and look at the specs (sometimes you'll find the manual pdf so just grab that, it won't be huge). Only some of those last Sony trinitrons had progressive scan.

The one Gyp got for free has got it iirc, but the one I have (32") is just 576/480i. Not that I really care because the tube and speakers are awesome anyway (and it's PAL/NTSC/SECAM).
I have 1080p lcd for anything else.
