Avoid. In my experience they have decent specs for the price but appalling build quality and customer support. I had an Aspire model several years ago. The hinges have a massive design flaw - they tighten over time and eventually it causes the casing to lift up and separate, usually on the left hand corner next to the Escape key. I babied mine and never took it out of the house, but this happened to mine literally the week after the warranty expired. Acer wouldn't even take money from me to fix it and completely denied their laptops had any design fault even though the exact same issue is documented all over the internet. I eventually just kept the lid open 24/7 and used the laptop for two more years before I junked it.

And people wonder why I liked my Macbook Pro so much when I got it.

We've got an Acer laptop we've now had since 2008, it's still running perfectly. I put that down to its specs being shite. Celeron single core, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD. My parents are still using it daily to browse the Internet.

I also had an Acer Aspire 5535 where the GPU/motherboard died after about a year. Turned it off one night, went to put it on the next day and nothing on the screen, and nothing through an external VGA monitor. Poop.
