AMD used to be pretty rad. I had an Athlon 64 in an old PC and often recommended their products when I was building computers for other people. They nearly always outperformed anything Intel had available in the same price bracket.
That was over 10 years ago. Unless you're on a strict budget or there's a specific reason I'm not sure why anyone would build a computer around their parts now. Their heat and power usage is usually obscene compared to Intel and Nvidia, and any cost saving is negated by the fact you'll probably need to spend extra on a beefier power supply.
