Maybe all the great Japanese game designers will just end up doing kickstarters while SE, Capcom, Konami et al die in a fire. Hey...I can dream can't I?

A big problem is the death of the mid-tier developer. It's all AAA or indies (cheaply mass produced aneeeemu rpgs in Japan are the equivalent). It's going to get even worse before it gets better. I mean I really don't know, Japan might be close to done. They have all but abandoned the home console market. All mobile all the time. I really do think kickstarter is one of our best hopes. Kickstarter has already netted me two of the better games I've played in years and allowed the game I am currently most heavily anticipating (Torment) to be made.

In case you misunderstood me earlier, I freaking enjoy older Japanese games, it's the newer stuff that gets me depressed.

the PSX original Tales of Destiny only has Jap voice , the PS2 translation of Destiny 2 and Destiny Directors cut is still in progress.
