It’s always difficult when that happens. Unfortunately the only thing you can really do is be there to support her when it implodes. At 17 she’s likely to dig her heels in and anything you or other family members say to her will likely push her closer to this guy.

Wouldn't it be nice if the whole human race woke up tomorrow and realize that good looking people and good people don't hang out together? All of the sudden you would see the half of the population who is overweight, unattractive, socially weird, get together with others like them and be happy, while all the good looking people keep screwing each other over and being miserable.

The other factor here in Minnesota is that every woman I have ever asked about it has been sexually abused by their family. Most of them seem to need/want a guy to rape them, according to legal definitions of the word rape. Seems to me that this: keeps her from feeling guilty for wanting sex; keeps him feeling powerful and macho; fulfills the shitty image of men that her rapist family defined for her; keeps him with a woman he doesn't actually care about so he's free to rape her more or cheat on her, beat her, etc...

It's kind of sad that the song Date Rape by Sublime is art reflecting reality.

We really need to stop pushing gender roles on our kids and start raising them to be people who treat others as people. The Golden Rule means jack in a society that teaches kids what we teach our kids. Unless you really mean that your sons should rape people as they want to get raped themselves...
