No, but I watched that before I watched the 1982 film. I probably didn't see Carpenter's version until the mid to late 80's
The 1951 movie is regarded as a true classic in sci-fi theatre. The sfx don't look fantastic by modern standards obviously, but it is pretty well done for a movie that old.
John Carpenter's is a cult classic but didn't fare so well when released due to competing against ET & Blade Runner iirc.
