I know this has been posted and talked about many times and I have already read many of the posts but am still unclear as how to do the patch.
I am trying to fix the bug in FF8 where the battle menu and character status windows do not appear
I've read the epsxe help about how to do PPF patching.
Auto Load PPF files is enabled in the epsxe emulator. V1.9.0 btw
I've downloaded and extracted the files from patch Final Fantasy VIII [Pal English]
I then copied the FF8Pal (extracted from the patch) file into my epsxe patches folder
other files extracted from the patch are named
SLES_020.80
SLES_120.80
SLES_220.80
SLES_320.80
The part i don't understand after that is... epsxe help... PPF patching...
3. Look on the CD you want to use ... you'll find a file whose name is like SLES*,SCES* or SLUS*. Copy that name and rename the PPF file from your /patches directory to exactly the same name (also in uppercase !).
Idk what it is referring to
I downloaded all 4 disks from CoolRom.com (same site I got the epsxe emulator and other psx games from) and extracted them into another folder titled Final Fantasy8. extracted with winrar.
Each disk is titled Final Fantasy VIII (Disk#), so i am unsure on how to or if i even can "look on the CD"
When I first started trying to fix the problem as listed above in step 3 of the epsxe help, I moved all 5 files into my patches folder and tried to game. The battle menu and status menus were still missing, so i removed the 4 SLES files and tried again. still missing.
I tried renaming the FF8Pal file to SLES_020.80 and ran the game, the menus were still missing. I then changed the file back to it's original name.
Reading through some of the other posts, one person had listed that he renamed his files (that is the emulator game files) Final Fantasy VIII [CD#] SLES_**** (**** being the 5 digit number that follows as shown above)
Mine are titled a little differently but I tried it with disk one anyway. Final Fantasy VIII (Disk 1) SLES_020.80
no menus
Idk if i'm doing something wrong (i'm sure that's the case though) or if something is messed up in either the game files or the patch files or both.
I also don't know a lot about all the different types of files and tools and things mentioned in many of the other posts so if you think you can help me please keep it REALLY simple.
If need be change those 3 easy steps to fixing the problem to 10 easy steps.
thanks in advance if anyone knows how to fix this
