Shooting to end a threat does not equal shooting someone in the face multiple times. And obviously a judgement call needs to be made on the threat in question. Intruders can be armed with all kinds of things, or even unarmed, and still be a threat. If a man attacks me, even though he's unarmed, he's most likely going to be able to overpower me. Just because I may have a gun and he doesn't, doesn't mean that if I shoot him that it's excessive force.

I'm sorry, but even if someone walks in my house and says, "Don't worry bro, I'm not going to actually kill you. I might just rape you and assault you a bit," I'm not required to just stand by and allow it to happen. Of course, I don't actually own a gun, so I might have little to no say in the matter.

If someone is coming into my residence I shouldn't have to spend time assessing what level of threat are to me. Even without a gun I would go at them with a knife and I'm not going to nitpick where I hit them with a knife which can be just as fatal.
