I still think Kickstarters are a major scam.
I've participated in both Mighty No 9 as well as Nintendo Force Magazine's Kickstarter campaigns. Both were successful and I'm confident neither of them were scams. Like anything else that costs money online. You just have to be choosey and pay attention to what you're buying.
Kickstarters are like any investment. Not every investment has a guaranteed return. That's why you must research your investments to find the ones with the best odds of succeeding.
By the way, I dunno if you guys have heard but the Watch Dogs controversy has now hit Dark Souls 2 as well.
Basically the game doesn't look as good on PS3/360 as the trailers (advanced lighting effects are toned down/gone). I've seen people refusing to buy the game because of this. Graphics whoring much?
I do wonder whether or not the master race edition will have all the grafix, though.![]()
I think they've made quite a bit of changes like enemy placement and such because of they removed the lightning effects so don't get your hopes up yet.
I'm slightly bummed but at the same time, don't care that much. But I would like to hear an explanation from FROM and Namco since apparently the beta, which ran not so long ago, had the lightning effects intact. So what changed between then and the release?
Maybe to optimize framerate? I dunno. There was no beta on PC so I never played that. But some of the effects do look like things that might be a bit too taxing on PS3/360 hardware.
The copy-pasta textures on the fire pit at 2:00 is kinda hilarious, let's be honest.![]()
Ok, I gotta throw in my two cents for Dark Souls. The final product does differ from the early videos and also the beta, but a lot of it has to do with the lighting. That original trailer was very dark and had some really wicked shadow effects, because at the time the game was centered around always carrying a torch, kinda like the old Doom 3 mechanic. However, that got scrapped, but in the beta the game was still very dark, but somewhat manageable without a torch. There were other changes though, mainly to magic - in the beta you could manually aim Soul Arrows, and if you clutched a staff with 2 hands your magic would actually be stronger. They nerfed these things at the last minute.
Anyway, back to graphics, the final product looks really good, but you can tell it's on a new engine. Now, here's the kicker - at times the character models and texture look a little low res and pixellated. I'm pretty sure this is because the game is running on the equivalent to "medium" settings on a PC, and I can almost guarantee the PC version and eventual PS4 version are going to look outstanding. The lighting is still really good, in fact I try to use a torch as much as possible just because it's cool, and something else I noticed, the further I get in the game the better the environments look. Frame rates are also locked in at about 30 fps, so no more blight town mess. I'll tag the next part, it isn't a huge spoiler but it will give you an idea of how well the game runs:Spoiler warning:
The beta area was roughly the midpoint of the main campaign, and the last few areas I've been through are just amazing. It's a very good looking game, and you PC users will be happy. I've sunk over 50 hours into this game and had plenty of time to stare at it. Hope this helps a little![]()
