Default What makes a game cyberpunk?

So, I've been working on a cyberpunk platformer the past month or so. It's inspired by Castlevania and Metroid. However, I'm kind of stumped on background items/obstacles/and enemies. The first area will be really techie and then you'll end up in a dystopian city like Kowloon or something you'd seen in Blade Runner. What would you like to see in a game like this? Pic related.

Future 80s Neon, flying ships, chiptune music as close to Commodore 64 as you can get, and big hairdos. If not all that, play Blade Runner (Westwood's game) and you can get inspiration from that!

Maybe it is just me, but I always thought FFVII had a light cyberpunk feel.

Orcs with mohawks and guns. Talking dogs. Shamans who love these talking dogs. Catpeople in... I dunno, jumpsuits. Incompetent doctors. Lazy morgue-workers. Dead people lying around. Gladiatior-type games with guns. Hitmen (they can be any of the aforementioned beings 'cept the talking dogs, that'd just be silly). Lotsa talk about them computar chips. Executive dragons. Floating jester masks. Sunglasses. People talking about ice. People with amnesia. Silly wordgames like "slaughter without laughter" and "boys and girls come out and play, on the busy motorway". A promised sequel in the credits that never gets made. You know, the usue.

    You're welcome.

Edit: Also, is that enemy shooting through the wall?

I thought of more things! Shapeshifters! But they must be shady-looking. Or hot. Chop shops are a must-have aswell, I mean how else could you regain your health? I know I touched on this before, but it'd be great if the main character would carry a bomb in his head. Traitors of course, but it'd be nice if you'd make it so the player most likely wouldn't know about this feature; like make it optional (you know, like that Yoshi character in Baldur's Gate II. Like I'd pick him in my party anyways!). If the last boss is, say, a unicorn you should name him Mr. (or Dr.) Enhörning, it's totally a cool name. Oh, and something in the game should be called Data Feast.

Is there anywhere we can keep updated on the progress of your project? Looks really interesting!

    I have some suggestions.
    1. A main computer that spits famicom games.
    2. A boss that has a green orb that you defeat by playing metal music.

I haven't updated it with recent progress, I'll be trying to do it every Friday (today). I'll also post some stuff in this thread when it happens.
