Game genre, setting, side mission (assassinations, thefts..), they share way too much in common to not consider the GTA games and not any other sandbox a reference to SR.
Some elements makes it different, tho. In SR you have your gang to help you in the missions, you can even personalize them but I've yet to see if it's presence is more cosmetic than anything, just there to cause more havok, I'm afriad
And there's a little minigame similar to what we saw in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (
conquer the different districts, neighbourhoods by defeating gangs and purchasing properties to earn money, respect and stuff). Kinda trivial and not really strategic.

I'll see how it goes when I start it, doesn't sound
that bad. Once I'm done making some room in the HDD I'll start playing the games I
really want to play and I haven't started (RE6, FFXIII-2, TR...)
