I played Chrono Cross, I'm ready for that shit.
While Wyrm's right that the direct connections are small (some recurring characters from the first, and the first three games [the true series] share a recurring villain), the first game is only like 25 hours long. It may not be on par with Suikdoden II, but is still a great game in its own right.

Seconded. It's not just a matter of completionism; the ending, and whether characters you care about live or die, is affected by whether or not you have all the stars of destiny.
    Gotta catch'em all!

You've never... uh... what the... MADNESS!

You can, of course, do that without much problems but the connections are everywhere so Wyrm is silly. You'll for example not notice how funny it is that it's Kage who supplies Jowy with info while in Muse or wherever and cool stuff like that!!! I played SII before SI, but I replayed it after beating the first game (ALSO YOU GET COOL STUFF IF YOU USE A SI-SAVE STATE). The old fake-prequel-then-sequel trick. Yepyepyep.

Also, Suikoden III is vastly underrated. The story makes up for the gameplay. SIV is shit, SV is probably the best one, tactics is grand - despite being based on SIV - and Tierkreis is fairly crap.

    Michael Ballack, he scores free-kicks.
He's got black hair, and he's german.
    Michael Ballack, trains in paddocks.
in his spare time, HE FARMS HADDOCKS!
Watch me play Super C, guys!!

It's okay, I figured it out myself.

Sounds good! Might have to take a small 1 hour brake depending on when we start playing. Hopefully we can clear the remaining chapters relatively fast!

Dirt 3 and GTA IV Episodes (The Lost and Damned).

This is my first time ever playing TLAD. I'm only 4 years late to that party, eh?

I still need to finish III someday. It was technically the last real Suikoden, since the creator/writer left half way through the project. Now they just give us Yuberless unconnected stories with a similar formula, but they aren't building to anything anymore.
Anyway I think making a Tenkai star an annoying little runt instead of a leader, even a silent personality devoid leader, was a mistake. His motive for recruitment seemed less tied to the central conflict than to a lonely plot-irrelevant desire to have a bit group of friends living in his house. Nevermind those friends were going out and killing people in their down time.
Also, that duck guy looked funny as shit.

Also, V bored me. I felt the story got redundant toward the end, and didn't you have to recapture the same city a few times? Felt too much like padding/needless backtracking.

Started Bioshock Infinite a few days ago. You know, that game that I bought back in March? Yeah, that one.

Enjoying it so far. Gonna try and find all of the collectibles without a guide. Something tells me that's not going to happen.

Yeah. Yeah, you do. I actually find the whole Thomas-business a bit adorable, although it's boring as shit. And Snowe (SIV) getting Flik's Ten'an star is way more annoying, just trust me on that one. Oh wait, maybe you did play the fourth game, in which case you'd know. Actually, I'd say the building has been pretty nice. SIV truly is an awful game, but it atleast showed the origin of a character from the original game. And although I couldn't have cared less about whatever land in SV (Falena?), making a prequel to the first game, that doesn't take place ages before the series opens up a lot of possibilities. The sixth game, which will probably never be made mind you, could be about so many things! That old freedom war or whatever; the messed up shit before SI that made Humphrey go all mute, a SIII sequel in harmonia with Sasari going all "you guys didn't tell me (((((" etc etc. As long as it's one day actually official that Hugo's the son of Luca Blight I'll be happy. TIMELINE GOODIES! And yeah, Sergeant whatever is the boss. ^__^

I actually really liked it. The villains are way worse than in I-III, but I think the story and characters are pretty much all enjoyable. Now, the plot twist is kind of weak (durr, the people who ain't SODs are the traitors) but, yeah. It's... possible, I don't really remember. But I liked the strategy battles so much (messing them up is the worst thing about SIII) I wouldn't have minded.

While there's still plenty they can do with the world and characters, they still feel like separate games with some weak tie-ins. Even where the first three games were totally separate from one another, Yoshitaka Murayama clearly had a bigger picture in mind when you consider the themes and narrative threads that did carry over.
Namely, the conflict between Yuber and Pesmerga, as seen in the fact that Yuber's importance to the conflict increased dramatically in each game, from being a non-boss mercenary to being one of the big bad. Not to mention his unexplained desire to sew chaos thoughout the world went from serving as a mere general in I to trying to obliterate a continent (or something like that) in III. They were building up to something there, and we'll never know, because they dropped that thread completely when Murayama left Konami.

Oh, I still think V was a good game. I just got bored toward the end. Ironically, most people think the first 10 hours are boring. Also, I played III and V without internet, and put dozens more hours than I should have trying to recruit people fruitlessly. --and I refuse to touch IV considering even the most diehard suikofanboys hate it.

As long as it's one day actually official that Hugo's the son of Luca Blight I'll be happy.
