I didn't have a problem with that scene, I had a problem with the fact that that is really the only thing of worth that happened in that episode. . . and the four episodes surrounding it.
I do NOT like slice of life.
An episode synopsis should not be, ". . .", and if I skip an episode, I should be confused as hell going into the next one--you could skip roughly half of Gargantia and miss absolutely nothing.
That said, I do prefer anime that are light on fanservice; I prefer meat and potatoes, and the desert should not be equal in size to the meal. (ie. I avoid ecchi) I'm constantly teasing a friend on MAL because she watches mostly stuff aimed at teenage boys.
I am eager for Expelled From Paradise though.
As for VNs, I prefer books, so I've only ever finished Saya no Uta.

My only sanctuary from modern anime is old anime. Good ol' campy 90s!
