THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.
Yeah, since I can't read Japanese. I can't really tell how accurate WD's translations actually are compared to their original Japanese counterparts. Though having played quite a few WD releases at their time of release. I do have a fair bit of nostalgia attached to them. I don't know how old you are. Though I'm sure if I were younger and not played the original Sega CD releases of Lunar 1 & 2 when they were released. I'm sure I'd be pretty underwhelmed myself. Playing them when they were new though, was an awesome experience.
Nothing of that caliber had really been released at that time in the US. Plus there were few quality RPGs released for the Genesis in the US. With only a handful of good RPGs to pick from. Lunar, Lunar 2, and to a lesser extent Vay. Stood head and shoulders above the rest.
Their PCE releases I have no opinion on. Seeing as how I never owned a TG-16 as a kid. Or really played any of their releases on that platform at all.
How is everyone?
Deviating somewhat from the original doesn't bother me, as direct translations are. . . well, NES games. It's all the out-of-place meme inserts that destroy the experience for me. Exile Wicked Phenomenon had an MST3K reference. That's part awesome, seeing how much I loved MST3K as a kid. . . but it's also awful, because WHY THE HELL WOULD SOMEBODY IN 12 CENTURY BAGHDAD BE WATCHING MST3K?! There was also an Elvis reference in Albert Odyssey, a Pepto Bismol reference in one of the Lunars and a bunch more I can't think of right now.
Also, they sometimes tweaked damage values to make games more challenging, but usually botched it, because the original companies had to do the insertion; Popful Mail is needlessly difficult, and Exile Wicked Phenomenon is largely considered impossible to beat.
As for age. . . I'll be 31 on Saturday.![]()
next time somebody asks me the difference between existentialism and nihilism, I'm not going to quote Sartre. . . the answer is 30.
