Good morning.

e-Xak-tly!
MSX Xaks have English translations, but PCE has the definitive versions.Any good action rpg game?
And Lagoon's a pretty good Ys-alike; though the English version removes the bump system for a paltry toothpick of a sword.
Aiza on PC98 gets a recommendation too, even if it's a ~bit~ unbalanced (and only in Japanese).
Yeah, there's tons of people who do that. Either for the pretty colors or just the gameplay alone. I dunno if they're just *that* desperate or what, but I could never do it. Nowadays I mostly just play JRPGs for the characters/setting and such. Even when they're archetypes, if they're entertaining enough I'll probably like it (in moderation). I blame my time with VNs. But playing something without understanding a single word of it... I wouldn't last an hour. I can tolerate shallow gameplay if I enjoy the chemistry between the characters, but gamepaly alone will usually not satisfy me. At least in JRPGs.
Hell, even in the case of Valkyria Chronicles 3, which does have a solid tactical gameplay to it, I wouldn't have gotten much enjoyment out of it had it not been for the interactions between the protag, the two heroines and the rest of the squad.
Oh and I dunno anything about Kiseki honestly, I'm only like 10-15 hours into the first one.Just couldn't find the time to continue it between all my visual noveling/other games.
Action games and ARPGs I can understand; you can still enjoy them with only a general grasp of what's going on--with my level of Japanese, "general grasp" is pretty much all I got before discovering AGTH and ITH.
But sinking 40-70 hours into something exorbitantly dialogue heavy, filled with depth and nuance, just to select the "fight" option over and over again. . . kinda silly, I think.
You're neglecting Falcom games for smutty picture books?!Oh and I dunno anything about Kiseki honestly, I'm only like 10-15 hours into the first one.Just couldn't find the time to continue it between all my visual noveling/other games.

Actually, I've only finished the first one, myself, despite having the entire series spoiled to shit for me. Started the second, and then heard the English announcement for 2014.
The first game is mostly character exposition; all that dialogue, but little actual plot (till the end). The series picks up after that. If you value character interactions, you should adore the game, when you find the time; I prefer plot intricacy to character development, and I still loved the hell out of it.
Falcom games might as well be visual novels with the amount of dialogue they have.
There's also the fact that my attention span tends to waver. Hell just now I decided to randomly continue my save of Last Ranker despite not playing it for over a year or so, all while messing around with Valkyria 3 and Summon Night 5 on a whim.I'LL NEVER FINISH ANYTHING.
I know FC is light on the plot but I enjoyed the character interactions so yeah, I liked what I played of it.
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.
