Is it normal for some Japanese people to not use Katakana when posting online on like youtube/twitter/forums when they should?

Post an example? But yeah, it's normal to mix up all the kana. You'll also see them use katakana for expressions that are normally written in hiragana or kanji.

I don't know what I was on when I made those themes. But I want more of it.

Very common. A lot of Japanese people think hiragana is kind of cute, and will throw it around quite often online in places where it doesn't technically belong. Especially girls.

I'll look for one now, it's something I've noticed a few time in the past and since I was you and Elin active I thought maybe one of you would be able to share some insight.

This explains a lot of things, especially a few album titles iirc that had hiragana that seems like it was supposed to be katagana.

It's actually fairly hard to find an example when I'm looking directly for one.

The opposite can also happen. If I may pimp my own video on here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YQffnEho-I), a good example is what transpires at 2:52 with the use of です, changing it to デス(カ). It all makes it appear more rough/masculine in a way.

There's all sorts of ways hiragana and katakana are used so don't be too alarmed when you see something like that.
