I don't hate it with a fiery passion, and there are certainly worse games out there but... imagine everything that's good about a JRPG. Now imagine a game lacking all of that. That's Last Story.

Basically this for me too. It wasn't really good, and it wasn't really that bad either. It just sort of... was. Definitely one of the games I've regretted preordering the most.

力 is often used as suffix to indicate the power of the thing it is used after, or even an ability/personal trait if you describe a person with it. In that vein you have 想像 (imagination) and 想像力 (power of one's imagination/how well someone can visualize things), 説得 (persuade) and 説得力 (coercive/persuasive power) or even 決断 (decision/determination) and 決断力 (decisiveness) etc.

You'll have fun with kanji compounds in no time!

Atm I'm using Jisho to look up words/kanji I don't know when I come across them, I'll look into those in a few although I use a browser that hardly anyone uses so I'll probably have to download firefox.

I'm really only learning basic grammar and some kanji right now, I know most of the Grade 1 vocab meanings, but I haven't memorized the on/yun readings yet. They have been a pain to try to remember, people say it's easier to learn them when you know words using them, would you agree? Kanji really seems to be useful once you know them, but if you don't you just sit there with hardly any idea what you are looking at, but it makes things a lot more clean than just straight hiragana.

If you don't mind this is the context of 火力.

I believe this says that "Ori's ult is stupidly powerful in the brush". But the dictionary translation for 火力 confused me a bit. Your help is really appreciated.

This. 4-5 weeks won't teach you a language that's very close to your native language, nevermind one that is about as far removed from your native language as languages come. And tweets can be quite difficult because they're often full of casual language and abbreviations, being that the aim is to say something in more or less as short a way as possible. I'm guessing that you are indeed horrible at understanding Japanese right now. But that's completely normal at that stage, and it would be strange if you were able to flawlessly understand things after a handful of weeks.

Anyway, you should stick at it! And do keep trying to read native level Japanese around you, even if it's hard! I think constant exposure to native level language is probably the most essential thing in learning a language well, and the common constant between almost everyone I've ever met who has been skilled at a foreign language has been that they learned it not only from textbooks but from real language too.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I've been looking at things like Genki and other online resources for grammar and vocab to be taught textbook style, but now that I know a decent amount of basic grammar, or what I believe to be a semi-decent amount I'm starting to look for some reading examples that aren't too complicated while also not being something that I would find in a textbook like, "he went to the bathroom".

I never once sat down to learn on/kun readings individually. I should probably get around to it nowadays but for a beginner, I would not recommend it. I just learned various readings as I went along, they came naturally from a variety of compounds I encountered over the months/years. So yes, I more or less agree with that.

I honestly wouldn't recommend visual novels to someone who's only been studying for 4-5 weeks but hopefully you'll find at least some bits of useful info in there.

Btw, I take it that is from a fighting game context? As in, ult meaning ultra? It'd be helpful to know exactly what he's talking about, but yeah 馬鹿みたいな火力 is insanely powerful/insane offensive prowess. If you mean で as a particle denoting location, it has to come after the location. So "in the brush/grass" would have to be 草で, in this case the で is in connection with 火力.

I get the feeling 草 here is some sort of fighting game slang adjective based on its position in the sentence. Either than or the sentence is unfinished. Or I'm having a brain fart.
