    As a matter of fact, it was a humminbird, but from 1980-something. It is a paper-roll type depth recorder. I saw it as a neato electronic to take apart and explore, but the internals are as simple as DeadLegion.

    Back in the old win95/98SE days I was doing that shit sometimes...only way to reuse IDE HDDs that had been hammered.

    Yeah my assumption wasn't a great one since it is an IDE - but I think it still checks it's probably just nowhere near as good as modern shit. Still I think even when I fiddle with that, it's still a matter of time until the drive climbs out of the lappy gives me the finger and finds a dark spot behind the couch to curl up and die.
