Oh, there's a character like that? I don't actually watch this new Genshiken, nor do I remember anything of the old ones, so yeah.

There is! I quite liked the first two series, and thought they did a really good job of depicting otaku, warts and all. Given that the characters in the other series were actually quite well rounded and sympathetic by the end, I was quite happy to see him / her (Not really sure if the character is supposed to be a crossdresser or actually transgender. Nor am I sure that the author really understands the difference) introduced, as I thought maybe the author would put a more mature spin on the story. But given the fact that a large chunk of the first episode was anti-transgender jokes and other characters talking about how much of a freak this character was, I'm not exactly enthusiastic to continue.

I see. Well, I suppose you react to these things more sensitively since you're very much involved with it yourself. I wonder if you could've enjoyed the same epsiode 5 years ago? Btw comedy like that will always happen, and people will always react to it differently. I'm sure if an anime, movie or whatever poked fun at something I held dear or believed in very strongly, I would feel equally uncomfortable. I remember there being somewhat of an uproar regarding the Kanji episodes of the Persona 4 anime, with people accusing the show of being homophobic.
